Congrats on passing...But all that means is that you have a 10th grade comprehension level...Not too impressive out in the real world...STAY IN SCHOOL!!!...Doug(IIC)

    Stky,
I owned MSFT when they declared a special dividend of 3.00/sh. I think so many people bought when they heard the news that the stock went up enough that if you got in early the 3.00 deducted from the share price still left you with a nice gain. In my case about 8.5%.

Ordinarily, yes. The price could go down less than $1 if people are accumulating the stock for other reasons, or it could go down more than $1 if they're distributing it for other reasons.

Actually I live in mind-numbing Roseville, Ca…10 minutes north of downtown Sacramento, CA. Hey is everyone stumped on the special dividend as I am?

I think your mother is right with concurrent enrollment at a Jr. College and High School.
Now, the tricky thing is to find out something that "grips" you to study in college.
    Dio,
Doug's post right underneath yours prompted me to take a look at locations of where some of us live. I was intrigued by yours. At first glance it didn't dawn on me that it wasn't in the US. I thought maybe like Lyehopper it might have been like Lyehopper's Hollow or some other quaint hollow somewhere in the boondocks. Then I Googled it an was surprised. Pretty neat location.

Example, abc stock will pay a dividen of $1 on January 30 to holders as of January 1. What does as of January 1 means, do you have to purchase the stock before January 1 or you can purchase up to January 1?

    Oil Sector (Refinery – ALJ)

The price of oil is slowly declining in the past few days. Why the refinery stocks are have a price and volume swing, it is swing towards the down side? I thought with lower oil prices means more purchases and more demands; with more demands mean more work for the refineries?

In the case of ALJ, is the stock shooting down like shooting star relates to the sector or is due to the $2.50 dividend pay out?

Btw, I only have two shares of brk-A. People laugh because I only have two shares but they don’t even have one share…hehe.

By all means, hang onto this one- at least for another 10 years. The only reason you should sell it now would be if you needed a new kidney or something. Even then, I think your parents would probably help you out with that.

Like Peanuts said, you need to have a better investment in mind before you get out of a winner like BRK. It's tough to beat Warren Buffett, and I definitely suggest you take a decade or two of diligent study in business before you try to do that.

As for your $100k question, I have no idea what the price of BRK will be after 4 months. You might as well ask me to guess next week's high temperature in Omaha. It may hit $100k, it may drop to $80k, depends who buys and who sells. But after 10 years, I think your investment will likely double. The business is just built too well to fail.

Also, owning and following BRK will be a great business lesson for you over these very important years. Your grandfather meant for you to own it, too, or he'd have just left you the cash and a note saying "Have fun in Vegas!"

    Sticky,

I know you asked Jiesen, but I've got to give you my 2 cents: Don't sell a true winner of a stock until you have a proven better investment in mind. Even after Buffet retires, the company will still be solid as a rock. From what I hear, he's not only a great investor, but a good teacher as well.

I think it will go to 100K this year. How may shares did your grandfather leave to you?

I think I like it when a girl takes charge...well the only three women that's ever been around me were my grandmother, my mother, and my sister. They are all stand up for themselves, I guess I’m basing my point of reference from them. This is what I learned in physic last semester, point of reference. Oh yeah, I live in Roseville, CA 10 minutes north of Sacramento.

So you had a lot of lady friends in school and most of your life?
I seem to get along better w/ women in general than men...maybe because I respect women???...And I have no superiority complex???...I like Smart Women who know what they want and know how to get it.

Yes...You have to be "YOURSELF"...But if you are a decent guy that should not be a problem...Doug(IIC)

Not that I regret it now...But if I had it to do all over again I would take the initiative to get to know some girls that were more timid...or shy way back when...Perhaps I could've helped them speak up for themselves???

Personally...I like women that say what they think...Tell me off when I deserve it...Stand up for themselves...I never had a preference for girls/women that just took it...Heck, I'm not perfect...Sometimes I need to be put in my place.

Here's a little tip as far as girls/women...Get in good with their Mother...I remember sometimes way back when guys were afraid of girl's Fathers...No problem...I got along with every girlfriend's Father I ever had...but the Mother calls the shots...She was a girl once...and she understands if you are good for her daughter...I'm serious...And if the Father doesn't like you but the Mother does...I ALMOST guarantee you are in...unless you really screw up.

I remember being drilled by a number of Fathers the first time I met them...They always want to know what your Dad does for a living...Well, mine was a Stockbroker...That passed.

The Fathers also ask you what you want to do when you grow up...I remember my first REAL REAL REAL girlfriend's Father when I was 15...First time I met him...People told me to be prepared for the worst...I walked her home from a Basketball game...She kept saying "Aren't you scared"?...NO WAY...Let me get this over with.

So I go in to her house...Her Mother, Sister and her go in the other room...And I'm stuck in the Living Room w/ Dad.

Eventually he asks me what I want to be???...I tell him a "Meter Maid"...He can't stop laughing and the rest is history...We went steady for 3 years...off 'n on...But He and I always got along...Plus her Mother loved me.
