Is $$$MR. MARKET$$$ Humor appropriate for investing?

Many people take investing very seriously because, like it or not, money is not unimportant in life. I've tried to inject some humor into this website and in my analysis of stock picks, and I've always wondered how this is received. Since day one, my concept has been to make the markets unintimidating to people who were fearful of losing money and I created $$$MR. MARKET$$$ as a kind of hybrid between pro wrestling and Wall Street Week. I've always felt that the more confident we are in our convictions and our investing, the more likely we would be successful in the markets. So please answer the poll if you get a chance.

It's funny sometimes but I'd rather not see it as it distracts from the forum.

It's not funny at all. It's sophomoric, vulgar and has no place in a serious investing forum.

I like it...I voted perfect...although..."perfect" is a bit strong...but I see no reason to tone it down...Investing should be fun and reading your stuff helps make it fun...Plus...You are a good stockpicker...even though we have different styles...I get ideas from you. Also, my wife likes you too...WAIT!!!...Maybe that part isn't so great...Come to think of it, my wife has been to NYC twice w/o me since March...Hmm!?!?...Happy 4th...Doug(IIC)

Hold on...You live in MA...but it's not that far from NYC...Anyway, my wife and I will be flying into Boston around October 8th...spending a week in Chattam on Cape Cod...If you or anyone else would like to meet up for dinner or something...We are game. Then you can see what I really look like...I'm better looking than my avatar.

Life is too short to be so serious about money. Investing should be fun. I tend to do much better at investing when I relax and poke a little fun at myself.

Because of your style, Mr Market, this is THE best investment board on the web. Please keep up the good work!

I look forward to the day when some of us can meet up and share our experiences.

I voted perfect, but I agree with Doug that "perfect" is a little too strong. I think that everyone on this board has a great appreciation for MM, and has a genuine affection for you. I think that all of us are thankful for this site. I know I am. But I would like to see the vulgarity or coarse talk ("bubbles in the bathtub" and worse) eliminated. I think that kind of thing takes something away from your dignity. I certainly fear any boasting. From a Bible standpoint, that is the worst thing about this site.

Having said that, clean humor is a good thing. And I think it is one of the reasons that everybody on this site is working together to help one another become more profitable. This is an excellent place to learn many things about investing, and I hope that it continues.

I'd like to express my sincere thanks to you for this site. Thank you and God bless you.

Newborn, how can you get any more clean that bubbles in a bathtub??

$$MM$$, your anecdotes are top notch, and they segway as ideal examples into your stock pick writeups. Not only am I entertained by every one of your writeups, but educated as well. I always figured there was a WWF element in your posts (YOU?? YOU?? YOU??, etc...).

As Webs pointed out, you make investing fun. Not only that, your open-mindedness to a variety of investing styles puts this site on top. You're a class act, and I'm glad Webs pointed out your site over IBD way...

I do understand Newborn's aversion to vulgarity, although, myself, hold no such resevations...

HMMM, I haven't been around for a very long time, I used to reside at 3 other boards for most of my time, now, I have found that His Hugeness is the board for me.
But, not only because of His Hugeness, but because of all of the great posters.
                Thanks everyone.

I am in a new job that is during market hours, so I won't be around much.

I'm predicting that this will be the most visited investment board within the next couple of years. The unique blend of humor and wisdom that exists here, can not found anywhere else on the internet.

I feel proud to be part of this site!

Mr. Market is a welcome relief from the stuffed shirts that seem to dominate investment sites and the business world in general. The funny thing about it is not Mr. Market's humor but the fact that his picks are so superior to these so - called icons of business.

I love the humor. Don't change a thing. That SEB pick could have some funny/crude pig humor...

No, keep the humor it is good natured and I think most people do not see it as being very crude at all.

                          Keep up the good humor

I too voted for "perfect". I look forward to each of the write-ups and usually close my office door before reading them because I will find something in the write-up to make me laugh out loud.

For the most part this is a good-natured board which is what keeps me coming back. I've learned and laughed with a lot of the members here.

Maybe it's good natured because we are making money? Maybe that's why they are so cranky over at IBD??

It is the human condition to want to have a champion. I humbly accept that role here.

                              I thoroughly enjoy your humor

We need this kind of irreverence. Most people take life too seriously.
