For the board members that are in this, a large or eclectic portfolio is not going to bring it home here. What I would advise: Find a single stock that you are confident will rise. Play it all! Buy as many shares that your million bucks will allow.
If you think your pick will run for a while, then let it ride. If not, pick an approximate exit price, pull the trigger the day it hits your price, and have the next pick in the wings, ready to go.
It appears, with the contest, they are not using the unsettled funds rule (as far as I can see), but, the downer is , when you make a buy or sell, they use the closing price of that day.
If you try to take this on with a fancy, multiple pick portfolio, you'll end up beating yourself.
    Good luck!
BTW- My balance is $1,237,700.74 and I am not in the top ten! A 23.3/4% return (sans bonus bucks) in a 4 day action, does not even merit an honorable mention here.

Adman I tried to hedge my bet with 7 stox....but only have 1015,183 in my account......the only way to bet it is to select as you say.. one or possibly 2 HOT ones and let the dice roll

These contests don't really represent real life investing. First of all, it's only play money, so no one feels risk. Second, it's all or nothing to win the game, so the way to go is to find the riskiest investments possible, and load up on one pick.

Exactly, this is very different than real life investing.

Yes. Unlike real time trading, you pick a stock to buy, and it is posted to your portfolio after 10 PM that evening. You must get your trade in by 4PM, to get credit that night. BTW- it is almost impossible to get a ticket in between 3:15 and 4:00.
Once your trade is entered, you recieve the closing price of the stock on that day, as your purchase price. Same deal on the sells, you get the closing price, the day of the sell.
Tough way to figure where to go.

Any other players from here? As an update, I am now ranked in the top 1% of players, but have an account value of $1,379,580. Saddly, this is not good enough to make the top 50 board.
I am curious to know if there are any players from this board, don't feel like you need to post your results, just curious to see who's in.
