I guess I do. The planners I know (had lunch with a half-dozen of them two weeks ago) take their jobs seriously as good stewards of their client's financial affairs. Maybe here in the midwest we have a different set of values?

I'm sure I can refer you to a fee only certified financial planner in your part of town who doesn't pitch any products, offer seminars, drive a Benz, and who wears bluejeans on the weekend. That's "passion" Dave, please don't mistake it for anger. I know many smooth talkers, I employ several "smooth talkers".... Actually I'm a pretty smooth talker myself.... But I can assure you of this.... Any "smooth talking" I (or any of my salespeople) do to my/our customers WILL be backed up by stellar performance and unmatched quality.

Actually I wear custom suits, starched shirts and gold cufflinks... I don't however drive a leased Mercedes.... It's not so much the fellas wardrobe nor his automobile.... My point is.... These guys portray themselves as something they are NOT and they DO NOT PERFORM!.... My mother-in-law (who is a widow) invited me to one of these fancy dinner/seminars. This cat was smooth.... Yet he's done NOTHING for her.... but take healthy commissions! She feels indebted to him because "he's just been so nice to her over the years, he even came to her husbands funeral."... Such a great guy!

I bet though some of these advisors are the real deal. Problem is many have given them a bad name. Yes Lye hit it on the head, set up the meeting at the advisors house and check out the mortgage to ensure it is not the advisors bosses house…

It looks like this thread might get nasty...Hope we can all post our opinions w/o offending each other...I know I won't get offended no matter what is said...But I will admit that I offended some good long term members recently...as well as some newbies...I apologized and I believe the long termers know me well enough...via the net anyway...to forgive and forget...But I do feel a little bad because I think I ticked off some newbies that probably won't come back...Nothing I can do about it now though...Doug
