One of the best albums of all time. Two of my favorites in Marakeesh Express and Lady of the Lake. I believe it was their first album as Crosby, Stills, and Nash. You can definitely see the carry over from Buffalo Springfield in their music and lyrics.

Okay, without googling for the answer, I'll take a guess that that was the day Gen. Lee surrendered to Gen. Grant at Appomattox, VA. (My great-great grandfather, Cpt. Miles, was on his way from (I think) Saltville to Richmond when he heard the news.)

And for Doug's question, my guess is that April 9, 1953 was the day of his birth. (Coincidentally, I have a brother who was also born in 1953, and his name also happens to be Doug.)

You are correct my historically astute friend!

Lil' Lye and me drove East to Appomattox County to look at a used 6410 DE tractor yesterday evening that an elderly farmer there is selling (nice machine too btw).... and as I drove through the beautiful Appomattox County Countryside it reminded me of that faithful day.... In a strange twist of fate.... Five days later (on April 14th 1865) Lincoln was shot in the head by JW Booth. Like I said, It was one screwed up year.

San Francisco, which I know is in the Pacific time zone, because I lived in San Jose, about 40 miles away, from '62 to '73.

Yeah, there is a lot of pretty farmland over in that part of the state. The only drawback is it's a little too far away from the mountains.

I never knew how much I took the mountains for granted until I moved to Minnesota, with not a mountain in sight. It really got to me.

It's not so far east that it's flat though.... Some nice rolling land and sprawling farms in Appomattox (beef country). I understand land values there are way up too....

I'm with ya though Rob, I do love these mountains. My Daddy's farm is in Columbus County NC.... Flat as a flitter but the soil is black as the night.... grows one heck of a Soy Bean crop.
