    MONEY FROM THE LORD!

A little boy wanted $100 badly and prayed for two weeks but nothing happened. Then he decided to write a letter to the Lord requesting the $100.

When the postal authorities received the letter addressed to the Lord, USA, they decided to send it to the White House. The President was so impressed, touched, and amused that he instructed his secretary to send the little boy a $5.00 bill, as this would appear to be a lot of money to a little boy.

The little boy was delighted with the $5.00, and sat down to write a thank-you note to the Lord. It read: Dear Lord, Thank you very much for sending me the money. However, I noticed that for some reason you had to send it through Washington, DC and as usual, those jerks deducted $95.

Phoenix, When we first started normalizing relations with Cuba the obvious questions emerged about Cuban cigars. It turns out the best cigars are no longer Cuban, but those made by Cuban experts that moved to Nicaragua and Dominican areas. They still claim the climate in Cuba is the best for growing the highest quality tobacco.

                  I'll Drink To That!

There's a man sitting at a bar just looking at his drink. He stays like that for half an hour. Then, a big trouble-making truck driver steps next to him, takes the drink from the guy, and just drinks it all down.

The poor man starts crying. The truck driver says, "Come on man, I was just joking. Here, I'll buy you another drink. I just can't stand seeing a man crying."

"No, it's not that. This day is the worst of my life. First, I fall asleep, and I'm late to my office. My boss, in an outrage, fires me. When I leave the building to my car, I found out it was stolen. The police say they can do nothing. I get a cab to return home and when I leave it, I remember I left my wallet and credit cards there. The cab driver just drives away. I go home and when I get there, I find my wife sleeping with the gardener. I leave home and come to this bar. And when I was thinking about putting an end to my life, you show up and drink my poison."

This guy, Jay Cooke, known as financier of the civil war was born in Sandusky, Ohio http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Cooke . His son in law, also born in Sandusky was Charles Barney of Smith Barney fame. Barney lived to be 101, dying in 1945. I went with a friend to look at Cooke's childhood home c.1835 for sale at a low price. The stone house needed more money and skills to restore than I've got. Even though, it could probably be purchased for $30,000. So little was visible of the original decorations a refurbishing in the Eastlake Architectural style (1870's-1880's)was all that remained. We couldn't get through all the layers on the floors to see original woodwork and ceiling had been radically dropped on the 2nd floor. It had been converted to 9 dilapidated apartments with a scary line up of meters, water tanks, and wiring.

It's been so cold here the beer inside my son-in-laws refrigerator inside the garage is freezing and exploding. Did you know outside soft drink machines have a heater that kicks on in situations like this? Several days below 0 with last Friday being the coldest -18. Cleveland news reported the lowest recorded temps since 1872.

Quick question for the board about buying stocks:

Do you all on the board always use Market Order or Limit Order when buying stocks? Just curious

                        Thanks!

bigtruck, I almost always use limit order. My thinking is I'm very unlikely to buy at the lowest of the day with a market order. It works probably 9 out of 10 times and you'll usually be able to save enough to pay trading fees. On rare occasions the stock will gap up or start a run that lasts for several days. That happened to me last with LBMH at 3.05. I got it later and have still made good $$.

Makes sense. I usually use limit order, but I clicked the wrong button on ASX and was in .06 above the market price. No worries with the HUGE ONE, but was curious how everyone else did it.

                            Thanks Billy!

Like 'never say never' I also 'never say always'. I usually use limit orders- but when I'm feeling lucky I go out on a limb and use a market order.

As a former broker, I can tell you that a lot depends on the bid/ask price as well as the amount of stock outstanding, plus do you really want to own the stock. For example, a stock like IBM with lots of shares outstanding may be quoted 164.83 bid 164.84 asked. A market order would probably be executed at the ask price. If you entered a limit order to buy at 164.80, chances are the stock may run away from you and you end up paying more for the limit order. If you want to own a stock, put a limit order in close to the market or just enter a market order. OTOH, a thinly traded stock has different rules. There may be 50 to 75 cents difference between the bid and ask. So you must be careful.
