    Initial Public Offerings (IPO)

Initial public offerings are your chance to get a stock when it first begins to trade publicly. The pricing of IPO's is never accurate, and there are usually wild swings in stock prices as the market tries to determine the market value for the shares.

Here's a thread to focus on the latest IPO's. Just list the companies and the stock that will soon file to become publicly traded, has just debuted on the market recently, or review a recent IPO's performance and future prospects.

Please, please, don't jump to conclusions! I am reading this stuff, and if you can post a reason to buy something other than "it is an IPO," I might take the plunge in with you. But you need to understand this: no chart=total blindness for a TA man like me. So I need some encouragement from a smart man like you.

It's mighty hard to get in on a good IPO at the offering price, even if you have a seven figure account with the brokerage underwriting the offer!

When I was using Morgan Stanley I tried on several occasions to get in on a few hot IPO's back in the 90's. I was always told that the local brokerage only got a very limited number of shares and that I might be able to get 100-200 shares. I think when "Blue Cross/Blue Shield of VA" IPO'd I got 50 shares. (I can't even remember the ticker now and it's no longer called "Blue Cross").... ANYWAY.... SO if you can't get in at he offering price anyway.... then it's just like playing any other MoMo stock I think.

            Lye,

You could have bought NLST anytime after the IPO recently and sold them today for a very handsome profit. If you didn't already know, the current market environment (long bull run) is perfect for IPO's. It's something about the market conditions that make them all hot. That's why I started this thread, now. It's a timing thing, dude

Look at the recent big IPO's- RVBD, DIVX, CBF, CBG now we have NLST. I'm just trying to open people's eyes to what is going on around them...

                Peanuts,
Cramer says buy up to 23 and sell at 30. My son says the fad was over 3 years ago. Cramer says they have only 11% market penetration.

                  billyjoe,

you've mentioned that the ticker is HYLS in 2 places. I read that the ticker will be HLYS... so, which is it?

I might trust your son, since he must be on the front lines in all the countries that they sell their shoes... no, not really. Let's see if Cramer knows what he's talking about...

                    Peanuts,
Cramer's messing with my head. Just went to Mad Money official site and it says HVLS which obviously is wrong. Googled it and found a story that also says HLYS so you're probably right.

Rumor has it that the CEO of HLYS broke his ankle this morning as the wheel inside the heel on his right wingtip inadvertently retracted! Seems he was cruising down the street with a hot SBUX Vinte' fat free late'.... when the wheel retracted he took a nasty nosedive on the sidewalk and spilled the late' all over a homeless dude.... The company is now caught up in some nasty litigation. They need to clear this up before the IPO can move forward.

HLYS IPO moved back until tomorrow unless someone else breaks their neck with those crazy shoes before then.
