Success with stock newsletters??

I have had a look at the site mentioned and I am more than a bit worried. First off, the company seems to be founded some years ago, but the first traces on the web seem to start this year. The scam factor seems rather high here, so I have deleted the web address.

Their resources consist of a list of Amazon ads; they get paid whenever anyone buys one of these books

They also leave you completely in the dark about their strategy. Not to worry: they probably have some mechanical strategy that really gives the results mentioned in a backtest. But 5 years is a bit short for a reliable backtest, and how long that strategy will keep up is anyone's guess. They chose the newsletter way, so they don't seem too hopeful themselves.

And don't forget that the results don't include commission and slippage. Especially with thinly traded stocks the slippage can be substantial.

So, why shouldn't I ban you for advertising an unreliable site?

The only stock I ever profited from that was recommended by a newsletter was from a sample copy of the Small Bank Newsletter--Hughes. It seems to be very reputable , however, I must have received my 3 or 4 copies after everyone else. The stocks were all priced well above the target except for the one I bought. They'd have to be very good to justify the subscription rate which if I remember correctly was about $800 per year as of 2004.

Anyone have consistent success trading stock newsletters? I'm currently on a free trial with [site deleted] and done pretty well (up about 15% since 1/07, I can post my trades if anyone is interested). I'm always looking to add to my trading toolkit

I see you've been a member here since Dec '05 so I'll go light...Stock Letters are generally published by those who can't make money investing their own $$$.

There are VERY few people who help others w/o expecting anything in return. There is nothing wrong w/ trying to make a buck...But telling me what I should buy for a price by people that can't do it themselves is not all that useful.

BTW...Wanna post your trades???...I'm not interested in what you bot yesterday...I wanna know what you are gonna buy tomorrow...Best, IIC
