Mr Market I like Your Style

Mr M your picks are very conservative and give some stability to my portfolio. Also your stock analyses are fun to read and very informative.Thanx for performing a great service for all.......bless you!

I just stumbled onto the site one day.. I was reading aol's site but really hated the B.S that came along with it. I lurked around for a while then finally joined so I could ask some question. To my supprize, I recieved answers immed. What I love about the site is that I can ask questions and not feel silly.

I like the arms on MM but would not want them for myself. I cant say I have made bunches of $$$ but that is because I have little to invest. This too shall change. I have learn more then I bargained for and I love the folks here. I have been able to fine tune my plan with the help of many here. I have dreams of leaning how to buy options, short stocks, etc. I believe I stumble onto a gold mine and plan to become a active member. I must first learn to thank those who take the time to wish me Happy B-day.... I swear, the nerve of some peoples children. THANK YOU IIC

Most of all, some think I look good in a swim suit or should I say watch. For my age that will always be a big Plus.

                  Dena,

If they're following you they might be looking for or at something other than your stock picks.

Yes, that will change. I started out about 8 years ago. I was too poor to invest anyhthing as it took all I could do to just pay the bills. My finances were a nightmare.

Then I decided to start contributing a small amount in the tax free investment plan that my employer offers. I started with $20 bi-weekly, which is not very much, but it gave me a start. After seeing the progress I was making, I started getting perked up and raised my deuctions to $50. That lead to $75, then $100, $150, etc.

After a few years I could really see what was happening. I was accumulating wealth. I had started dirt poor, without a dime in the bank, and here I was with a few grand in mutual funds. My enthusiasm grew and I continued investing in mutual funds for the next few years.

After about 5 or so years, my enthusiasm started to wain. I noticed that the funds that I invested in were not really making me much profit. most of my balance was from my contributions and not from actual profits in the market. I was becoming disillusioned. The funds sucked.

Then, a light flashed in my head. What if I took control of my own money? I could do better than those funds did. I thought to myself, "Screw the mutual funds!".

I spent every waking hour pondering the possiblities. I could trade stocks and make a fortune. Yes... I could do it!

I then started making a plan of action. I didn't have time to waste and jumped in head first. Afterall, I was too naive to realize that I could lose my a-- in the market. I was sure that I would prosper.

I went to the book store and bought every book I could find. I read William Oneils and Stan Wiensteins books, plus a few others. Then, I got a subscription to IBD.

So, I opened my account and made my first trade. I bought 50 shares of GES. I sold it a few weeks later for a small profit. I bought a few others and made some more money. Then I bought a few losers, but I cut my losses short.

I actually watched my portfoio shrink for the first half of the year, which was a little discouraging, but Im stubborn. I wouldn't give up. I learned from my mistakes and forged on. Then I watched as my account went from red to black. I was doing it. I was making money. I profited 11% that first year.

Along the way, I obtained my Vulcan identity and stumbled upon Mr Market and his forum through the IBD boards. I also learned that Canslim didn't work so well, but I met many great folks who have helped me become a better trader.

It must have all paid off, because, I closed the year with a 31.5% gain. I don't know of too many mutual funds that did the same.

Since the time that I first started my savings plan, my personal income and contributions to my accounts have increased significanty. I am not as poor as I used to be. I've gotten a little greyer and have become better looking. Live is better than ever. My health is great, i have a great family and my wealth is growing.

Sure, I've had my share of tragedies, but that's all part of life. I'm going to win this game called life. That's what this is. A game. A test. Who wants to improve themselves? Who wants to pass that test? Who has what it takes?
                      I do!

                          how i got here

I joined in September. But it wasn't Ernie's big biceps I need to credit here. It's his beautiful, intelligent wife. She's my cousin. And she was one of those cousins who was the smart one. Most times you dislike "the smart ones" but she was not only smart, she was really really nice growing up and still is. ((Another good pick Ernie!!)) Anyway, I always shied away from investing in the stock market since my family has had zilch luck playing the game, uneducated in its ways. But this past year a windfall due to the sale of a downtown chicago home had me looking around to invest. For the first time in my life, I had some money I could afford to lose. Jeanine hooked me up with Ernie, and haven't lost anything yet. (I'm sure that's coming.) Right now I'm looking at how I can better manage our retirement accounts. Wow, I've come a long way in six months. And I owe it all to MR HUGENESS and his compadres, you senior members who are patient with us juniors. That's my story.
