Hey, I think it's pretty impressive that the pipsqueak leadoff man Brady Anderson of the Orioles (previously of the Red Sox) hit 50 home runs in the 1996 season. It was the CREATINE, baby!

Check out the latest Stats, Height, Weight, Position, Rookie Status & More of Brady Anderson. Get info about his position, age, height, weight, draft status, bats, throws, school and more on Baseball-reference.com

Brady was a former Red Sox phenom. I think you have to give Barry a little credit. Playing til age 43 is pretty impressive, chemicals or otherwise.

            Bad For Baseball

I will say this, Barry Bonds has one of the best swings I have ever seen. It is short, compact with little or no wasted motion. If he was not on the juice, he would have about 600+ home runs.

I have to agree with doug and newborn. on the juice, which whatever is was he was taking is cheating, and is an unfair advantage over others that are doing it without anything over and above their normal physical attributes. Definitely an asterik next to this one and besides no-one likes a cheater.

                A complete non-issue

baseball is a bore and Barry Bonds is an even bigger bore.....Professional sports is entertainment for the common man allowing him to live vicariously through his heroes.....Football is the exception in that grown men take the field with the intention of crushing each other, with a point spread on the outcome allowing for gambling....

I guess what Barry does to his body is his own business. Even when not on the juice, Bonds was somewhat of a rarity. The young, skinny Bonds we saw in 1990 had the stuff of a consistent 30-30 guy. Numbers like that would get him into Cooperstown as well.

Funny that everyone was in such awe of Bonds prior to news of the juice surfacing - then the lynchmob sets in. Like people couldn't tell the difference between him and the way he was before, without having to be told so by the media?

Then congress gets involved. Do some real work people!

how would anyone know what any athelete could be taking until he gets caught at it. Everyone was impressed by Barry Bonds, Maguire, Sosa, Giambi, and Canseco and then it comes to light they may have been using performance enhancing drugs. When you like the guys because of their performance and the numbers they put up and then it comes to light that they were cheating it changes the whole scenario. Being in awe is normal and changing your feelings towards them after you find out that they were cheating doesn't make anyone stupid or a hypocrite. It just changes the perception of what you thought they had accompolished. Bonds can do anything he wants with his body but a 30/30 guy is alot different than 60/30 guy and there are many 30/30 guys who did it for a few years running but aren't in Cooperstown. 30/30 isn't going to guarantee induction into Cooperstown without doing it consistently over the course of a long career. And being in awe initially and then finding out he is a cheat because of some decent investigative reporting by the media is the only thing that will keep these guys from cheating. I thought they were all pretty good but after finding out they were cheating it changed my outlook towards all of them. Thank God there is the media and some pretty sharp investigative reporters out there exposing these guys otherwise they would all be pissing down the general publics calfs and getting away with it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about who did what. To me his record is clouded and the fact that he has done nothing to make it clear that he never used any steroids or other performance enhancing drugs doesn't make it any easier to accept his breaking the record.

                        Bonds, Bonilla, Van Slyke

I lived in Pittsburgh when these three guys were in the outfield.....Pittsburgh might never again see a team that good again....Should have beaten Atlanta for the NL pennant.

Point well taken Ski. Shouldn't be so harsh towards the public, but my main point was that people don't gain the amount of muscle mass that Bonds did without serious help.

Adding to the point... I'm sure people will bring up Ernie and his 19" 'ceps to debunk my last point. However, I get the impression he's been at it for 2, almost 3, decades. Bonds' transformation was much more instant.

As for Creatine, I've always been under the impression it simply aides muscle recovery, thus assisting the efficiency of the next workout, more so than pure performance enhancers.

I agree with you whole heartedly B.J. He was a skinny kid and all of a sudden many of them were like the hulk. There's no way anyone could convince me that Barry Bonds wasn't in the middle of that whole Bay City Lab affair.
