    I picked a good one, I think!

I'm very new at this stockmarket thing, but enjoying playing around. I made some money on Southern Cooper, buying based on a recomadation from Smart Money mag. Sold it and then bought it again when it dropped real low. I'm enjoying watching it grow again.
I also am enjoying watching Excel Maritime (EXM : NYSE) grow. What do you all think of Excel? I sure hope it does as well as Southern Cooper.

      Melissa,
EXM is an excellent stock especially now when good stocks are hard to find. It passes every fundamental test. Don't know what the chartists think. How did you find it?

        smart money

The majority of my picks are from reading articles in Smart Money Magazine. I am seeing gains from several of the stocks that I read about in the magazine. When I see something that smart m. says looks promising then I look at its charts and run it through a check sheet of basic items. ie earnings etc. I then will watch it for awhile before buying. I have also purchased the a division of Coke oversees (CCH), it wasn't doing much until this week, but is looking good.

          Billy,
Can you tell this chartist, who is ignorant of FA, what "every fundamental test" is?
          Thanks!

            Newborn,
Perhaps I should have said "every fundamental test that I use" since everyone values importance of fundamental parameters differently. I'm primarily looking at value, growth, income , and group strength. Value as compared with similar stocks. Its P/E is around 18.50 with projected P/E of 14.30 or less depending upon source. With these numbers it appears to be undervalued by at least 33% and about 69% compared to projected '08 price.

Its income growth is conservatively 22% per year for next 3 years. ROE is 15.90%, well above average as is the 1.67% div. Net profit margin is 36% with a 5 year average of 42% also much higher than peers. Price appreciation for 6 months +157% 12 months +307%. Debt to equity ratio is .57 also well below industry average. Throw in the fact that with only 3 analysts following it (with strong buy ratings) it is not well enough known to have been over hyped at this point.

I realize that different sites don't agree 100% on these numbers but overall they paint a positive picture.
