    The Hello 2008 Top 5

Here are my fave five to start off the New Year:

    ATW BIDU BOOM RIG TISI

Which one do you like the best, and why? I'll be buying one of these later this week. When I do, I'll let everyone know, along with a detailed explanation.

    Happy New Year!

The local paper here is quite adept at finding good eggs before they hatch. I read a similar article on Calgon Carbon before they went from $10 to $16.

Ernie, this particular article was written on Sept 22, 2007. You've got to read this: http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/trib.../s_528838.html

My pick of the bunch is BOOM

      Tisi

For the short haul and quick 15% I would select TISI!

ATW: more upside coming on this one. Has had quite a run, and needs a breather. Still, its worth a long for sure. In same sector as RIG. Both will probably go in the same direction in lock step. Option chain is fairly strong.

RIG: option chain is only mediocre. Not quite the pretty chart of ATW. Somehow RIG doesn't seem to scratch my itch.

TISI: has a nice chart, and should make the 15%. Getting a little late in the game for this one, though. And there are better charts out there. So I'll pass on TISI.

BOOM: has had a great run, and has a nice option chain. But chart shows a possible double top, and a bust of the $55 support may bode for real trouble for BOOM: it may just go BUST. Not a #1 pick in my book.

BIDU: a bust of the $420 is very bullish . . . lots to love about this stock and chart. Its got an option chain running over with cash! I like it right here, and this is my #1 pick!

            Mr. Market,
Okay, time to shake the dust off 2007's market, and really make a great 2008 with the market and personally, too. Best wishes for you and yours.

I noticed the p/e's of these stocks are down where I like them, and also that the PnF gives approval to them too. Nice going!

UGH! BIDU got a high pole warning today! "There's danger here, Will Robinson!"

TISI got a high pole warning, too.

Right now ATW looks the best after this mess.

Well, messes like this are a problem for $$$Mr. Market$$$'s method. It is not about buying depressed stocks, but about hitching a 15% ride on a current winner with reasonable earnings and profits. It might even be a good idea to do a new dump et cetera, but $$$Mr. Market$$$ is running this show.

                      Regards,

I'm looking for a 10% haircut for the market. It looks to me like March is an excellent time for the next MM pick . . . unless MM starts picking shorts.

Messes like this are a problem for a lot of us...I may cash out soon (although I'm more than 50% cash anyway) and sit it out till the market gets better

It's about time that we agree on something, NBB

I'm looking at March, Nasdaq at 2,100ish

I'm also looking at Nasdaq reaching 3,100 this year as well. Now that's going to be a really nice move in the market!!!!

Some things that I think may impact the economy, and the markets:

                            Iraq - scale-down of operations
Oil - New and repaired wells coming on line in the gulf of Mexico, many infrastructure repairs completed, and the move in Iraq could scare some out of the trade. The price per barrel should stabilize or even decline. Alternatives are looking better and better at these lofty oil prices. Go LNG!!!!
Election - woohoo, an election year!!! These are always fun
Workforce productivity - Hey baby boomers, get off your butts!!! You still have bills to pay. No early retirement for you!
Credit Markets - Subprime is still going to affect us and may spill over to alt A Education may suffer due to a decline in enrollment. People just carry too much debt to add college loans and more expenses to their already rising bills. The GI bill may entice high school grads to join the armed forces just so that they can pay for further schooling.
The US Dollar - badly beaten down these last few years. When will the rest of the world realize the value in it again? 2008

My best performer so far in 2008 is QID Ultra short QQQ Pro Share at an average purchase price of 48.25. I also hold XNPT FSLR CEDC and GEF. Most of my money is in cash at the moment but I'm starting to pick up a few share here and there.
