    How good was your 2007?

I am quite happy with my 14.9% return over 2007! Although I am not so happy with the decline of the dollar, which ate away most of those gains. My Euro returns for 2007 are 3.8% Well, I'll just have to do better in 2008!

Re: How good was your 2007?

2007 was an interesting year...I wish 2007 had happened 10 years ago...After some great gains the first few weeks of the year I basically took off 3 months from trading...2 reasons...I was busy and I wanted to study options.

I made one REALLY bad trade which was QID -20%...It was not disasterous as it wasn't a particularly large $$$ amount...But it was a bad move.

I went from my day trade ways to more of a swing trade mode starting late April thru late October...When the market starting acting up I did make some day trades thru the end of the year...But not so many compared to the previous few years.

In 2007 I believe I became a more focused trader and I intend to continue with that...Sure, I'll make some bad moves...But my goal is to keep the damage minimal.

Fortunately...on my Swings I put in more $$$ on average than I do on most dt's...And some paid off handsomely $$$-wise. On some of my best trades I trimmed one or more times...Most(but not all) would have paid off better if I had just held on...But, it sure is easier to sleep knowing you already pocketed some nice gains when the volatility kicks in.

Another trade which many would say I screwed up is JRJC...I sold with a nice profit in the 14's...less than 3 weeks later it was over 47...Well, I always say "Better to sell too early than too late"

Without looking anything up I remember these trades as being my best swings of 2007: CBEY, LNN, MR, FRM, PTT, STV, SDTH

Overall Portfolio was not up as much as I thought...Ran it all thru today... +63%

I am really looking forward to 2008...I don't think the market will be particularly fantastic...But I feel more confident in my own abilities (particularly on the emotional side) than I have since the mid 90's.

      Best To All...Doug(IIC)

I had a good year. Remained focused all year on my discipline and planned strategies. I've been doing the swing trading for a number of consequtive years now and firmly believe that anyone that makes a plan, honors their stops and protects their earned gains by placing well thought out stops, will succeed in trading. The 2nd half of this year I have been listening to a friend who buys and holds long term plays according to her plan and does very well. She has convinced me that it holds water to invest on occasion in worthwhile long term plays, other than in my retirement account, which I have tried with several of her selections. Riverbabe will attest to a couple of the plays as she has made one or two of them herself. I feel that I am maturing into what I have wanted to become as a trader both on the short term and the long term. I have always had a good deal of patience and see it as one of the prerequisites to becoming a successful trader along with developing your strategies and discipline. I am looking forward to 2008 and becoming even more focused on making myself into what I want to become as a stock trader. I think that most of us should take a good close look at how we trade versus how we would like to see ourselves trade and work hard at developing our strategies and discipline to help us attain those aspirations. Good luck in 2008.

2007 was my best year since 2004. Had a number of very good picks, some were long term, some were daytrades. One account up almost 100% and the other up over 25%. My worst trade of the year was QID, which I think was taken about the same time as Doug did, following the asian crisis day. I continue to study, work hard and try to learn as much as I can. The folks here are a great resource and inspiration to me.

I started long term holds in July and saw some incredible gains in days, then watched them go away over and over. Up 10% in the end but could have been 20-25% if I put tighter stops on them.

This year no more holding, I think that season is over for now. I'm going day/swing this year, jumped in at 2:30 today thinking we might get a Friday rally in the end... 500 shares at 1 point. Didnt think much about it because it was up 9 points last week and 41 points in October I think Monday all this commotion will subside... *hope*

                Was up ~ 20% in 2007.
Had been up 39% until the first week in August.
                Terrible since then.
Was busy with other things, and just let trading go.
I swing trade, but there has been no real momentum lately, as MR.Market can attest.

And I saw that one of my aggressive growth funds was up 20% without my input. so I cannot claim to have done anything.

But at the same time my wife and I bought some terrific paintings - TERRIFIC -
( plus one dud ). We are happy.
