    Stock Screens

I would first like to say hi to everyone as this is my first post.

I am looking for a program/website in which I can set up my own stock screens based on a set of criteria, and which allows me to create new criteria as well. I have tried Reuter's screen, the MSN money one that I had to download, stockcharts.com I think it is, and I own Stock Investor Pro by AAII. While Stock Investor Pro is nice and allows the creation of custom fields, it does not have all the data that I would like to access. Does anyone know of a program with more comprehensive data? I also do not like the fact that Stock Investor Pro "loses" data after each update, that is, it replaces old information with the new values so that that data is no longer available for analysis.

    Thanks much!!

StockCharts.com and StockFetcher.com are both subscription services where you can customize and program your own code into the scans. If that is what you are looking for.

I am looking for fundamental and technical criteria as well as historical data, hopefully at least a couple of years back.

I went to the stockfetcher website and I was able to screen stocks by volume, but then it only displays the results by total volume, price, or percent change in price. Is there no way to sort the results by percentage increase in volume? (My screen was to compare one volume criteria to another)

Does anyone know if stockcharts.com has volume data for the past 5 days?

I use Stock Investor Pro, which is also a subscription service, and it is quite good, but only has volume averages for 2-week and 3-month periods and only has one relative strength for each stock, no historical information. As I stated, I am looking for a screen with both technical and fundamental info, hopefully I'll find one that has a volume average for the past one week and maybe two weeks and monthly data as well. Anyway, thanks for the quick replies.

Alternately, I know that Excel can cull information from the Internet at periodic intervals and then analyze them in predefined equations. Does anyone know if there is a place to get large amounts of stock info (ie, a database or table) on the Internet in one page that I could use Excel to retrieve, for example, price/volume info on maybe 9000 stocks? It seems like a lot but I figure it would be available somehow...

Stockfetcher has very limited fundamental data and Stockcharts has none.

I'm fairly certain that you can run scans at both on a weekely basis but I've never tried...Stockcharts has historical data but I don't think the format is what you want.

Are you looking for something like price increases on increased volume? I'm sure you could scan for that at Stockcharts.

Yes, but I'm looking for 5 days of volume instead of 10 days which most of the other screening websites use. Does anyone know if it's possible with stockcharts?

To make it easy you could use the PVO indicator and change the default criteria at Stockcharts

if you use the advanced scanning criteria at StockCharts you can write any code you want to plug in whatever your parameters are. The only thing is that you have to be a subscriber and that costs about $31 per month. It is not available with their freebie stuff.
You could try http://prosearch.businessweek.com. They have a pretty decent scanning setup with both technical and fundamental plugins. I would buy the StockCharts service on the monthly schedule. You get alot for the money.

Like Ski..I like the paid Stockcharts scans...However...Stockfetcher on the paid service has a lot more indicators...But overall I'd suggest to keep the technicals simple...Too many can be a bit overwhelming

The Business Week's stock screener is no longer available.

I found a couple other screening websites for around the same price, from $30/month to $50/month that have a large amount of technical data. I may try out one of these or stockcharts.com although I don't see a free trial.

Has anyone used the Barron's stock screener? What kind of technical data do they have available?

The Barron's stock screener is pretty much worthless...Doug(IIC)
