I have been asking myself what to do with off-topic posts on this forum, especially those of a political nature, but also the rest of them. The idea of this forum is to do nothing (administrative) about them, as $$$Mr. Market$$$ is a rather broadminded guy and that is the way he likes things: as little interference as possible. Still, some inofficial guidelines may be useful. Let me have a try.
Of course we have a whole thread devoted to fun stuff. Fun stuff is different. Jokes are generally out of bounds: it is hard to apply criticism to humor. Things become tricky when gender, race, religion and sexual orientation are involved. Political correctness is boring, but some sensitivity (no, it doesn't make you gay, and then, what about that?) might be nice.
Thus endeth today's sermon. Go forth and sin no more.
Regards,
Karel
- Try to post things that are actual and of general interest. It would be strange to frown upon threads concerning the elections, for instance. A bit of policy you just disagree with will most likely result in noise on the board.
- Even then, try to post things that are factual and then preferably when they have some concrete effect on the economy/stock market. Another measure that just adds to the liabilities of the State isn't very interesting here.
- Even then, try to refrain from information about the morals or personal integrity of the person or persons involved ("juicy details"). Truth about these things is hard to find, and generally not very relevant even when it is widely and not only partisanly supported.
