    online brokers

I trade with Scottrade. They have great service, and a $7 market order commission. ($12 limit orders)

I hear that Freetrade is cheaper ($2-3 commissions) but I haven't tried it. They don't have IRA's- much of my trading is in IRA's.

My experience with Etrade has been less than satisfactory. I'd recommend dumping them as your broker.

MoeMaynard, I am not a financial adviser either. Remember financial advisers are people who are so bad at handling their own money, that they actually have to work for a living.....so they 'earn' their money trying to tell people how to handle theirs! Struck me kinda funny.....

I would recommend you look into Ameritrade. They do handle IRA accounts and I believe they charge about $10.95 a trade, regardless if it is market or limit. But please, as with every trade you make, do your own homework and then make your own decisions. Empowerment is far better than following.

I have been with Etrade a long time and trust them but their limit order price is a tad high. I would consider switching for cheaper trades.

Thanks for any insight your hugeness!
I like Brown&Company http://brownco3.com . Trades are $5, $10 for limit orders, no maintenance fee. Min $5000 to open an IRA.

          scottrade

I opened an account with scottrade in July. I was really scared to make the first trade......but you should watch me now! It is really easy and if I have a problem, they walk me through the steps. I used Edward Jones for years and found that my broker had the best landscaped yard on the block! He was landscaping his yard with all of the commission checks he made from me (He is my neighbor). My trading style was changing because I was learning so much from this board. You guys gave me the confidence to do it myself. I have been slowly transfering my positions to my scottrade account so I can control them. I trade every day and I am saving so much money in commissions ($7.00 vs $50+ per trade). You do the math! I now have two new vehicles (Volvo and an F-150 supercab) on my driveway and my broker is livid. I love it! I wonder if I will get that basket of fruit this Christmas from him. Whatdoyathink?
I have learned so much from this group. Thanks Guys!

            Thanks all.

            Hey Ernie,

Recommending a broker does not make you a financial planner!

Thanks people, I opened a Scottrade account yesterday and am putting my IRA with them. The $8 a trade I'll save will add up quick in this crazy market. Too bad you can't trade options in an IRA

I bought VLGC today at 2.90 at the open....should have sold at 3.10 but maybe I'll hold for a few days. This market is on fire.

Quick question, do you short, becuase your method does seem to work very well in a bullish market like we have now, but if you take a look at pretty much all your stock pics, they all take off in march, the same time the bull market began. So im just wondering when the markets start to reverse, are you going to short?

I've just signed up with Freetrade, a new division of Ameritrade.

First 20 trades per month are commission-free. All business is transacted via email, eliminating overhead and making the service viable.

                        Tough market lately

Groups I see that show relative strength: oil and nat gas exploration, propane marketers, fuel providers (INT), REITs, Recreation vehicle-related, a few auto industry parts makers, a few drugs, several insurance-related, finance companies and small banks. There are bullish pockets out there.

There are also pockets of bull sh** out there. So be careful, people.
