Can someone please explain to me why the market would care what the $USD does???...I see no correaltion.

I see a pretty strong inverse correlation, Doug. It makes sense, too. The less the dollar is worth, the more dollars any given company/stock should be worth. So, all else being equal, it makes sense for the Dow to go from around 8000 to 12000 as the dollar drops from 120 to 80, right?

Of course this should only matter long-term because short term, the market really doesn't care what the dollar does, and tends to be much more irrational.

I ran a similar one on $GOLD too...I remember when the markets went up when gold went down....But I saw that change quite a ways back... The reason I posted that chart is because I really never followed the dollar till this year...and I don't really know how the whole monetary system works.

In a way I feel like I was bamboozled on my QID loss, which while not substantial $$$ wise (Made more on STV on my 60% trim than I lost on QID), because I listened to some rather sharp, rather rich oldtimers...I finally came to the conclusion that while they may be intelligent...They may be very wealthy...They may also not be with reality anymore.

I'm not really sure about that though because some of these guys are sharp and mostly make sense...But they have sure called it wrong on the $$$ effect....So far anyway... But nobody is perfect and I know we all have to make our own decisions...right or wrong.

One thing that came to mind...I probably read it somewhere...Is that as the dollar goes down the companies that export do well because foreigners can get the products cheaper...That certainly makes sense.

Just a note of apology...With the SoCal Fires...although I am not personally affected, I am extremely busy at work...So, I am not around much during the market day...I've even been updating my site 1-3 hrs later than usual....I expect to be back to normal next week

Countrywide Financial Corp. lost $1.2 billion in the third quarter, but its shares soared Friday after the nation's largest mortgage lender said it expects to be profitable this quarter and next year.

With statements like that it sounds like a class action suit in the making

Back...sorry I had to run so fast earlier...I posted what I sold this morn...here's how it worked out: HLIT +.17, SPEC -.72, HLIT +.82, JOBS -.39 on 1/2 but I had sold the other 1/2 a few days ago for +1.29.....Now all I own is STV (40% stake left) PTT (25%) FRM (25%)
