THE NASDAQ STOCK MARKET ANNOUNCES OPEN SHORT-INTEREST POSITIONS IN NASDAQ STOCKS FOR APRIL 2004
New York, NY—As of mid-April, short interest in 2,770 NASDAQ National Market® securities totaled 4,784,290,236 shares compared with 4,655,165,170 shares in 2,767 National Market issues for the month of March.
The April short interest represents 2.83 days' average daily NASDAQ National Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 2.74 days in March. Short interest in 673 securities on The NASDAQ SmallCap Market SM totaled 209,054,901 shares for April, compared with 200,414,743 shares in 676 securities for the month of March. This represents 1.09 days average daily volume, compared with last month's figure of 1.05 days.
In summary, short interest in all 3,443 NASDAQ® securities totaled 4,993,345,137 shares for April, compared with 3,443 issues and 4,855,579,913 shares in March. This is 2.65 days' average daily volume, compared with last month's average of 2.57 days.
The open short-interest positions reported for each NASDAQ security reflect the total number of shares sold short by all broker/dealers regardless of their exchange affiliations. A short sale is generally understood to mean the sale of a security that the seller does not own or any sale that is consummated by the delivery of a security borrowed by or for the account of the seller.
The monthly NASDAQ short-interest figures are current as of the 15th of the month and are released to the media after the market close on the seventh business day following that date. The figures this month include all short-interest positions reported March 10 through April 12 and settled as of April 15, 2004.

What do you think? And while I'm at it, what do you think of the whole market situation? I just read an article that foretells next week to be another crummy week, "sluggish" was the word they used, while nobody seems to know what Greenspan is truly up to with his "promise of patience." Meanwhile, I am getting beat up here in my portfolio. What are YOUR thoughts, ICC?
