Pete Hansen banned temporarily

I am sorry to say that I felt compelled to ban Pete for 48 hours, of which about 34 are remaining as I write this. Despite my warnings and threats, Pete persists in posting racist and abusive messages and he has now taxed my patience to the limit.

I am really sorry to have to do this, as Pete is an otherwise respected member of our forum, but the credit he has gained as such can not be spent on racist and abusive messages.

Some people may have noted that Pete no longer has a special Banned for 48 hours notice but the generic Banned notice; this is for technical reasons only and the ban is still time limited.

Webs..you make a good point. I have been very appreciative of Pete's contributions to this forum and am a HUGE fan of his thread. He has been extremely prolific and thoughtful. However Karel has informed Pete several times in the past about the type of stuff that is appropriate on this forum and, more importantly, the kind of stuff that Karel and myself, do not want to see on this forum.

It's really up to Pete to decide whether or not he wants to live here with those restrictions. If we didn't want him here, the ban would not have been temporary.

This is nothing personal against Pete but it is a message to him, and others, about the types of things that we won't tolerate here. The easy thing to do is ignore these types of things. The hard thing to do, and the right thing to do, is what Karel has done.

Actually...I agree on the temp ban...Not that any of his posts bother me...But I fully understand why some would be offended and I would not allow it on my forums or chats.

When I saw the Night b4 Christmas he posted I told my wife that this thing will be gone soon...As some may know she is black but she thot it was funny and I copied it and she sent it off...But unfortunately, what a person can get away with many times depends on what race they are and who it comes from...I understand that...Anyway, I think there should be rules and they should be enforced...I don't put up with that at the sites I control because I really don't personally know over 99% of them and I want everyone to feel comfortable.

Apart from what Ernie has said, the fact that Pete is an appreciated and active member of our forum obliged me to make a public statement when it had come to the point where I had to take measures against him. I couldn’t just ban him with no comment.

Thanks, Doug. Yes, this can be a confusing thing (probably not for you), but it is really quite logical. If a black person shouts: “I hate blacks!” at the top of his voice, the result is almost inevitably funny even if the shouter is really angry, because the statement reflects back on the speaker and his ingroup. When a white person does the same, it is most likely not perceived as a joke at all, because it is directed at an outgroup and almost inevitably brings up associations of racist days and current racist ideology. This logic will not diminish in force for a long time, not even for white persons who are on very good terms with black people: even then mock-racist statements by whites might create confusion.

Well, that last post was just the last drop, of course, not necessarily the worst he has posted. I removed it, yes. If you are really interested, you could google for ‘the difference between Simba and Obama’. When you find a list of these differences, you have probably found the content Pete posted. The level is rather low, however.

So did Pete's post show a "low level" by refering to Obama as African?.... or as a lier?

I don't think Barack Hussein Obama would mind being refered to as coming from African descent (at least half his genes did anyway), I think he'd be proud of it. Now Karel, you're from and reside in the "white mans" Europe.... and I guess being "African" is a bad thing and not to spoken of?.... but over here in America, having an African American president is a big deal and freely spoken of (and widely supported)..... But of course over "here" we "freely" speak of alot of things without being censored.

And just for the record, a growing segment of Americans (ones whom elected him) are indeed viewing our president as a "lying African American" these days.

Pete's a good guy and maybe a bit outspoken about things but not a bad character in any way regardless of his statements and feelings about blacks, whites, yellows or any other colors. i just hope this doesnt escalate and become more that what it was to start with initially. i certainly hope that pete doesn't shelve the forum because of it. he's a great contributor and we don't need to lose him. personally i don't like anything about obama or his wife but it's not because of his color but his ineptitude and the fact that he's in way over his head and that he is a closet socialist who is trying to steer the country away from it's roots. and his wife is getting kind of thick in the middle section which turns me off moreso than her color. don't let this temporary indictment sway you in any negative manner pete.

Well I do regret the postings in the FUN section , and I aplogize if I had offended anyone .....perhaps it ws just a bad attempt at humor?
I am the son of immigrant parents , and I did grow up in a rough and tumble neighborhood where insults such as "Greenhorn" were the least of my worries because I was more concerned with tire irons and stones.
My mother once told me .."If a person has confidence in his intellect, abilities and himself ......NO ONE can put him down " .....how right she was!
