Beware the Scam

Unfortunately this is a true story. It happened to me this past week.
A con man got hold of my email address and both my phone numbers. Because of the nature of the ( calls I also had to change my bank accounts, credit cards, everything! Starting from scratch! Yuk, but better than total ID theft.

Beware of phone calls from someone who sounds exactly like your daughter, grandkid or anybody else you know, wanting you to send money. Somebody found out enough information and tried to exploit me, saying "hi grandma, it's me" and sounded exactly like my grandson! The police figure it was the unusual call he got a few weeks ago from a telemarketer who probably recorded his voice or imitated it or took a voice print!

Close call. The police weren't surprised, I'm the 12th person in my community so far this year. The level of sophistication is incredible. Be careful out there! River

I have gotten email notices from "supposedly" Bank Of America saying the account was locked an that they needed "INFORMATION"! The site looked exactly like the real BAC site ......I called the company from the number on my credit card, and they said they NEVER ask for info via an email. .......NEVER call the email number sent to you , as a con man is on the other end.

He used only my home and cell numbers. About 8 calls over 2 days. Just googled "grandma scam." This is exactly what happened.

Wow, I just saw a whole bunch of cases like this on the news. I was wondering how they managed to sound exactly like whomever they were impersonating. Now I know.

Good to hear that you didn't take the bait. Always be leery of anyone calling you asking for money, no matter how legit they sound.

When someone asks for money simply tell them you are unemployed and filing for bankruptcy........they will back off faster than a cowboy encountering a rattlesnake.

People can sound like other people but how can they say the things the same way?

If my son calls asking for money I know everything he will say leading up to it...But how would the scammer know?

Dad (grandpa), I'm so embarrassed, it took me 20 minutes to get up the nerve to call you. I'm on vacation, in Mexico, (where in Mexico?) Mexico City. I'm calling on my prepaid phone from the hospital (slightly nasal voice). A guy ran a light and broad sided my rental car. I have a broken nose (yes, I'm gonna get it looked at as soon as I get home). My friend has a bump on the head but we're both okay otherwise.

Shall I go on?
