    Zack's Screen of the Week

I just finished reading this article from Zack's

Zacks is the leading investment research firm focusing on stock research, analysis and recommendations. Gain free stock research access to stock picks, stock screeners, stock reports, portfolio trackers and more.

Here is the screen - I like this screen - any comments?

    Screening Parameters

The screen I'm running today starts off with:

Last EPS Surprise greater than or equal to 5%
(Stocks posting positive surprises have a tendency of surprising again.)
Last Sales Surprise greater than or equal to 5%
(A positive sales surprise shows top line strength. And once again, a company that has surprised in the past is more likely to surprise again in the future.)
    Zacks Rank equal to 1
(Only Strong Buys can get thru.)
Price greater than or equal to $5 and Average 20-day Volume greater than or equal to 100,000
Just these few criteria narrows down the universe from over 8,800 stocks to just over 30.

Here are 5 stocks that meet this criteria:

( BPOP - Snapshot Report ) Popular, Inc. (next report date: 4/19/13)
( SKX - Analyst Report ) Skechers USA Inc. (next report date: 4/24/13)
( RYL - Snapshot Report ) Ryland Group Inc. (next report date: 4/24/13)
( XL - Analyst Report ) XL Group plc (next report date: 5/7/13)
( RWT - Snapshot Report ) Redwood Trust, Inc. (next report date: 5/9/13)

All of these companies reported both earnings surprises and sales surprises their last time out. A great combination. And I expect more of the same this time around as well.

mimo, Kevin Matras runs some interesting screens at Zacks. I got his book "Finding #1 Stocks " from the library. It costs $50 new. I'd recommend trying the library before buying. He explains P/S ratios to screen for as well as P/cash flow, P/book value, P/sales, and many others. Have 5 Zacks stocks right now. Too early to analyze results yet. Just checked, am up on 4 of 5 from $2 to $115. Longest hold is 8 days. Also holding stocks using Vectorvest strategies. Both groups are considered longer hold candidates unless they stop out fast.

mimo, I've got a free 30 day subscription to Zack's Ultimate that is running out shortly. They send me e-mails daily from several different portfolios they have such as : Home Run Investor, Whisper Trader, Zack's Confidential, Reitmeister Trader and others telling me their latest buys and sells. Nobody could buy them all so I look at the charts, compare ratings with VV, Barchart, Motley Fool Caps, and any other source available. Often they'll be an overlap such as AMBA, also on the Morpheus Trading watchlist. Others such as PPC were listed on top stocks under $10 as well as IIC's 3 weeks tight consolidation at SharpTraders.com. The 5 I have right now are INN, PPC, AMBA, KKR, OME. Usually I'll look for confirmation from at least one other source before buying. The information at FINVIZ as well as their screening will often yield the same stocks as Zack's. So far, so good. As of yesterday my portfolio hit another all time high. Only problem is I'm getting overloaded with 25+ stocks.
