What Stock to buy long term for children or grandchildren?

If you could buy 1 or 2 stocks for the long term (more than a year) to fund future education for your children or grandchildren what would they be? Dividend stocks for reinvestment, maybe speculative growth, cannabis equities?*

    * if I buy your suggestion, it tanks, my grandchildren end up flipping burgers, it's your fault !

Slightly off topic, my son (12 y.o.) received a small inheritance a few years ago and every time he received his quarterly savings statement and saw the interest earned he always declared "what a rip off!".
This year he had me open him a TD Ameritrade account and we call his basket of stocks 'The EJ Index' (after his name) and these are his 8 positions, with Google, Apple and Berkshire Hathaway the three he personally chose.

        AAPL
        AIG
        BRK.B
        GOOG
        GOOGL
        MA
        MDT
        SLB
        WYNN

He is up on all positions except MA and for his upcoming 13th birthday his wish list is for shares of stock to add to his account.

There are a few positions I anticipate him adding. I may give him some CELG and GM at today's levels. (GM has been battered by the old ignition issue but based on today's earnings, the next few quarters, and the huge upcoming move into China is going to be a good long term investment for a company that I feel has hit the bottom and possesses the right stuff and people to nicely boost the stock over the next year or two.)

Looks solid. Interesting he chose AAPL and GOOG(L) as opposed to FB and TWTR as his tech stocks.

Middle School in this relatively small town prohibits any phone use while on school grounds and at his age he comes home and games through his PC while Skyping with his friends.
But I can definitely see with puberty kicking in and paying ore attention to the girls that social media may kick in and he will see FB and TWTR (or another alternative that may arise) a part of his life, but currently he calls it "stupid and boring".

He has taught me so much more about Google than I ever knew. In the schools they are using Google Docs, where multiple users can edit a shared document. Then there are voice commands he can use via Google. Lots more going on there.

All of which, methinks, is very useful information.
