Just for balls going to start buying Motley Fool newly recommended picks (sometimes I guess they are re-recommended picks) when they recommend them. Will buy smallish positions and see what happens. Today's are LGF (26.26) and WETF (9.51) with SPY at 187.25.

Taking a 12% porking on LGF today on an earnings miss. Back to a smidge under even. WETF up about 10%. SPY at 192.51

Previous picks all up CGNX (4%) SHW (3%) LGF (21%) WETF (16%) NOV (4% plus the spinoff which I'm too lazy to calculate). SPY at 197.38.
Where are you finding these recommendations? Thanks.Tim - Retired Problem Solver

As I said I'm trying to conduct a controlled experiment here. Per the results I posted yesterday CGNX and SHW are up slightly, in line with the S&P. LGF about 18% ahead of the S&P, WETF (which Ernie said he owns) 13% ahead of S&P. NOV is ahead modestly including the spinoff of DNOW which makes calculations messy.

re: motley fool
mimo, I have a very basic subscription and they constantly send me e-mails. They're legit but my investing style and theirs don't exactly mesh. Mostly I check out their picks and buy if I agree with their assessment. Not enough action for me as they usually hold all picks for multiple years. They have a good track record especially brother David.

Members receive 2 stock picks each month, typically on the 3rd Friday of each month at noon. One pick is chosen by Team David and the other by Team Tom.
In my research, I found that Team David's performace is better by a wide margin than Team Tom.
As you say, this is a long term (3-5 years?) buy and hold service, as I found in my esearch.
You can find a lot of the individual recommendations from the Stock Gumshoe.Tim - Retired Problem Solver
