    World Cup 2014

OMG! Did you see that??? One of the best soccer matches I have ever seen!!! Spain V. Holland!!! Holland 5, Spain 1. The announcer said, "They (Spain) have lost their aura of invincibility." What a game!!! What is coming next??? Robben, Van Persie, De Vrij! WOW!

Soccer is slowly fading away in my area of Ohio. Used to have 8 youth teams playing every Saturday morning behind my house. Last year there were only 2 teams. The High School team no longer exists. The girls lasted a couple years more than the boys. It was fun watching the kids. What will ex soccer moms do?

That was a very nice match indeed (that first pass by Blind/goal by Van Persie!), but I have only seen a highlights report. It is very nice that "we" won, too, but as a result our country is coloring even more orange.

          Well, there are worse things.

              Billy,

Same in my neck of the woods. Lacrosse is taking off for boys and softball for girls.

I prefer watching ice hockey to soccer - the action is intense, the rules are similar, and the action takes place within a 200 foot by 85 foot ice rink versus a typical soccer field of 300 feet by 225 feet. I found that I do not have to watch a soccer match - I just wait until the crowd noise increases and then look up to see what is happening - perfect environment for having a few sam adams and catching up socially with your neighbor. In hockey, if you blink you may miss something - similar to baseball where you could get hit by a foul ball if you do not watch out. Also, there seems to be so much violence among soccer crowds, or so it seems to me.

Mimo, The parents seem to get out of control at the kids soccer matches. Many of the mothers are obnoxious. I don't follow international soccer and would probably root for the dark horse. Who is favored? What teams are the underdogs? Karel?

                    Congratulations!

and billyjoe: I have no opinions on the 2014 World Cup and on soccer in general.

                      Soccer is illogical.

Last night is was flipping between the Tribe game and the World Cup action. I do not watch pro soccer much and I was amazed - I loved it!! I saw Ghana making a ton of shots on goal at the beginning of the 2nd Half. They put a lot of pressure on the US defense - sooner or later one was going to go in, and it did. The team with speed has a good chance of winning in my opinion.

Spain also lost the first match in the last world cup and finally we won the competition (BTW playing against Holland).
This is just a strategy to distract other important opponents. Tomorrow we will show to the world the potential of the best football team of the last decade

I hear firecrackers, could it just be? Yes, "we" have won against Australia. OK, back to work...
