    3 Stocks We're Never Selling

3 Stocks We're Never Selling - Motley Fool article

    http://www.fool.com/investing/genera...r-selling.aspx

That's why 3M (NYSE: MMM ) is in a unique position and is the one stock I would never sell. The company has paid a dividend for 98 straight years and ...

A "never sell" company had better serve a permanent need, and Middleby (NASDAQ: MIDD ) has that in spades: People gotta eat. Chances are, you've eaten something prepared in or on a piece of Middleby equipment in the past week.

One stock I plan to hold forever is Ford (NYSE: F ) , which is actually a bit ironic as I don't own one share of Ford just yet.

mimo, I used to think that way about some stocks. When we were kids a person would never sell Bethlehem Steel, General Motors, Sears stock. Things change, it could take 10 years, even 50 years for the leaders of today to become forgotten. I recently came across an old Motley Fool newsletter. They had a writeup on long term holds and explained the bright future for each. One of them was Enron. Within the last year we're seeing cracks in the McDonalds and Wallmart businesses. Have they reached terminal maturity. Maybe they are out of ideas. Some young techno geek kids might make them obsolete with a cell phone app. I've got a couple stocks I have no plans on selling. That's just because I've held them so long and reinvested dividends that make it seem as though I'll never lose on them.

I can think of a few "nevers" for buying and selling stocks. My number 1 "never" is never hold a stock without a stop order in place.
Math doesn't lie, but people do.

        billy,

I posted the article to see what everyone thought. I agree with you and blindsquirrel - things change and we should not fall in love with any security.

I may be in cash by the end of the year.

Maybe DDD and SSYS will be next http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/qui...ow=True&time=8

After many years of promises they still show you the small plastic toys investigative reporters printed out with the "technology of tomorrow"

Just noticed the microphone being held in this video has Motley Fool logo on it. They love this stock calling it another AAPL or even greater.

For truth in packaging I'm a Motley Fool subscriber. The question I always ask myself with something like this is why is it worth 29 as opposed to 25 or let's say 22. Since I can't answer that question I wouldn't buy at 29 or so.
