A really hilarious reply is this, first stating that Ford never said that, then that it was nevertheless his mindset, and finally why that was almost the downfall of Ford in the 1920s.

Damn, you're good! BTW, my father owned a Model A way before I was born. It had to climb steep hills by backing up them to allow the gas to reach the engine by gravity. By steep hills, I'm talking climbing the escarpment between Hamilton and Waterloo. The new route is less steep. The old one was much much steeper with lots of switch-backs. Scary.

My grandfather who grew up during the Great Depression in Oklahoma said his Ford was the same way, you had to back it up a steep hill. Of course his was owned by a poor sharecropper and he also didn't have money to fix it when it broke and he'd have to drive it backwards when the forward moving gears would break.

So so many quotes to choose from! This one got my attention today.

"A Labour source said, 'It's perfectly simple. We are in favour of Britain leaving the EU because that's what people voted for, and we're trying to win back the trust of the British people, but we also want to make clear that a lot of us think it's going to be a disaster and that although we're voting for it because the British people want us to we also want to make clear that if it is a disaster we wanted them not to do it, although not enough that we were willing to vote against it, because we want people to trust us and see that we are willing to do something we think is not in their best interest to prove that we have their best interest at heart and should be put in charge of the country. Clear?'" [Private Eye via Alex Massie]
