      The Other President's Day Top 5--SAFM is my choice

      Mr. Market,

      I like KRB (credit card company) and SAFM (a poultry processing company). I am actually torn between these two companies (unsure if they are the same 2 that you are thinking about).

      I would have to go with SAFM; I already own an egg stock (CALM) and I wouldn't mind making some money on a chicken company too! For me the egg stock came first and now it's time for the chicken to produce.

        I don't like SAFM. Can you say 'bird flu'? IMO, I don't think poultry stocks have the full impact of this latest hysteria priced in yet. I guess it's possible they'll make it through this just fine, but why chance it? Just think what's going to happen to this stock if a flock of chickens on a Sanderson farm is found to be infected?

        My favorite of these is MTH, the financials look great, and I think we can still ride this homebuilder wave for another 15%.

        Everyone else, what are your thoughts? $$MM needs more input than my and vish's drivel. Speak up!

          Not sure if anyone cares to read my opinion (just look at my SSNC thread,) but I like MBNA Corporation (KRB) and Meritage Corporation(MTH.) Both offer good-sized rewards with little risk. I like the credit card company as the economy improves I believe there will be less personal bankruptcies, which eat into a credit card company's profits. Also, I don't see interest rates lowering in the future. As stated in the DHI thread, I believe they will stay roughly where they are until after the election, then rise.

          I like the home builder for many of the same reasons I still LOVE DHI. Great fundamentals, rising economy, current low interest rates. I think both these companies (DHI and MTH) still have momentum and room to grow, which is why I still hold my DHI, even though I am up about 20% already.
