    Scottrade Hacked

If any of you have or did have accounts at Scottrade they announced Friday they got hacked 2 years ago...Personal info including SS #'s of 4.6 million people.

They are offering Free credit monitoring for a year... If you would like to join the Class Action Lawsuit you can sign up here http://abingtonlaw.com/Scottrade-Dat...n-lawsuit.html

However, if the Target settlement is any indication don't expect much unless you can prove someone actually used your info as a result of the breach.

You should have gotten an email Friday from Scottrade but most of the people I know didn't get one.

Search the world's information, including webpages, images, videos and more. Google has many special features to help you find exactly what you're looking for.

I got my email from them this morning. Apparently they've been working with the Feds on an investigation into the security breach, and they were asked not to notify customers until the Feds finished with the investigation.

First of all I rather doubt Scottrade has released all the details...Second of all this happened late 2013 into early 2014. Scottrade claims they didn't know about it till the Feds told them in late August 2015.

Doesn't bode well for Scottrade's lack of security.

I got a call from the attorney this morning...If you want to join the suit I'd recommend doing so soon.

I got the email from ST Friday altho I didn't read it till Saturday...My wife got one today.

Made the phonecall. Persons and accounts "not affected" were not notified. They got names and addresses but not SSN's or account numbers. Since 12 SSN's of my immediate family would have been vulnerable, I was concerned! Have been assured that none of my accounts were at risk. So should I breathe easier? Time will tell I guess.

People are still getting emails today...I would not believe them...Anyone who had an account prior to the first quaretr 2014 is vulnerable....They are being very closed mouth about this...and well they should be at this point on the advice of Counsel. I'm waiting to see who their Crisis PR firm is gonna be...Anyway, I have not called them but I have talked to a number of people who have...answers have not been consistent. Meanwhile this ALLCLEARID company they have chosen has some really bad reviews.

Turns out it was the same hack that got JP Morgan, WSJ, E-Trade, Scottrade, etc. They traced it to 3 guys, and 17 countries. The American is believed to be hiding in Russia. The NY AG is going after them. It's the case that is currently all over the news (global hacking). Read all about it here. (Use your back arrow to get rid of the NYT advert). http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/11/bu...&nlid=47075250

MORE CHARGES IN ONLINE ATTACK AT JPMORGAN Prosecutors in Manhattan said on Tuesday that they uncovered a global, multiyear scheme to steal information on 100 million customers of a dozen companies in the United States and use the data to advance stock manipulation activities, illicit online gambling and fraud, Liz Moyer reports in DealBook.

The discovery came from an investigation into a computer hacking at JPMorgan Chase last year that involved the breach of information from 83 million customer accounts.

Investigators uncovered a trail of 75 shell companies and a hacking scheme in which the three defendants used 30 false passports from 17 different countries. Activity went back as far as 2007 and reaped hundreds of millions of dollars, some hidden in Swiss accounts.

The accused - two Israelis and one American - face 23 counts of fraud and other illegal activities. They are the first charges directly linked to the JPMorgan hacking.

Prosecutors said the group had infiltrated seven financial institutions and two newspapers for contact information with which they could advance their pump-and-dump stock manipulation scheme. They "took the classic stock fraud scheme and brought it into the cyber age," said Preet Bharara, the United States attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Prosecutors also said the group was involved in processing payments for illegal pharmaceutical suppliers, running illegal online casinos and owning an unlicensed Bitcoin exchange.

Separately, federal prosecutors in Atlanta on Tuesday announced charges against two of the group and another unnamed defendant in the late 2013 attacks on E-Trade Financial Corporation and Scottrade Financial Services, both major online brokers. The 10 charges include aggravated identity theft, computer fraud and wire fraud.
