Motley Fools just offered me a year's subscription for $49. Hard to pass up. I know they were pushing DDD heavily and it lost nearly 90% of its value. Now class action law suits are being discussed. Anyone here have good or bad experiences with their picks? We're all entitled to a stinker at least once a year.

I have a definite opinion on it which is negative. I got an offer about 18 months ago for a two-year subscription to the MF Stock Adviser for maybe $80-90. Did indeed seem like a good deal. One thing I do not like about it is they send you two recommendations each month regardless of the situation which doesn't fit my style and sometimes they repeat. I've found the recommendations somewhat mundane. AAPL, NFLX, PCLN, PYPL, TRIP. They do throw in a few like ATVI, CRI, CASY, CTSH, CLB, CSX that are not quite so obvious.

I have decided that these offers are just an excuse to get your e-mail so they can send you offers for other services, some of which cost multiple thousands of dollars. The deal seems to be they offer you a special deal at maybe $500 or $1000 off and they send you multiple emails for the same offer, several usually on the last day insisting the offer expires at midnight so better hurry. Or the title will be Open This Right Now or Are You Sure You Aren't Making A Big Mistake. I find it insulting. I just LOOK stupid.

I will now draw this diatribe to a close. $49 IS hard to pass up and if you get just one pick from them you'll make it back. There are discussion boards on the site you can read and these might be helpful or interesting. I have got more out of Ernie's site in terms of investible ideas.

The Fool asked me to be a leader in the Rule Your Retirement Seminar - I jumped in and answered questions when needed - for that I received a free subscription for life to the Fool. I was never a portfolio advisor - I was in the top 5% of the CAPS community at one time - this is a good place to look at how tens of thousands of fools view individual issues. I have never subscribed to any of the Fool portfolios - I do like their research into finding hidden gems.
