I bot some last week. It's down only 2%, but Hmmm... Sorry about the bolding. Couldn't get rid of it.

    THE DARK SIDE OF CORD-CUTTING
Wall Street may be giddy about "Star Wars" and what it has done for Disney's prospects, but Richard Greenfield, a longtime media analyst at BTIG Research, still urged his clients to sell their Disney stock. Mr. Greenfield does not have an issue with Darth Vader, but he says the company has deeper problems, Andrew Ross Sorkin writes in the DealBook column.

The company faces a slowdown at ESPN as viewers cancel their cable subscriptions or decide against having cable at all. "Investors must remember that at its core, Disney is a cable network company that has the highest level of fixed costs (sports rights) in the industry," he wrote.

HBO and CBS have started offering à la carte programming for less than the bundled cable bill and Mr. Greenfield says he believes that ESPN will have to follow suit, but that it will not be able to offset the loss in cable subscribers.
These fees cover the enormous cost of licensing live sports programming.

Mr. Greenfield said he believed that expectations were too high and that the stock would fall in the next year. "It puts incredible pressure on the films. They all have to be massive successes," he said. Currently 44 percent of Disney's profits come from cable television.

Most analysts have waved off these concerns, saying that the cord-cutting will happen slowly. Disney has also diversified its business with franchises like Marvel and Pixar, as well as its theme park business. Even Mr. Greenfield conceded, "It would be more fun to be them than anyone else." So the force is still with them for now.

Thank you for that. I think cord cutting is real because I'm doing it and I'm not technically nor media savvy. Getting an Apple TV for Christmas (someone we know has Hulu) and (not directly related) have cut my Verizon cable bill from $226 a month to $181 by dropping stuff we don't really use. I have always thought of Disney as a content provider and figure content is king. This seems to be saying they are more of a service provider, a conduit, than I thought, i.e. a little like Verizon. I thought I might short Verizon (via puts since if you are actually short you have to pay that 5% dividend.) Looked at the option premiums and they are laughably large. Somebody thinks cord cutting is real.

On Dec. 6 Cramer put out a list of 38 of his annointed stocks for 2016. I set up a portfolio to track. So far NFLX is the worst performer down 11%.

I sold my NFLX at 132.20 and bot back at 122.55. Now it's flirting with the 50dma again and walking down the lower Bollinger. Sitting at 117-118. Guess I'd wait for it to decide where it's going before doing anything. As for DIS, still holding for now. Still a great company. Maybe that article was a good early warning though.

My goal for 2016 is to cut the cord! My daughter has the dish. It's pretty worthless also. 995 channels I'll never watch.

I've done part of this for you. I think if you separately google each channel "streaming" you should be able to find what you want, with maybe some small compromise.

https://www.roku.com/whats-on These are the channels available using a ROKU streaming stick for a one-time $49 or less (e.g., Best Buy). Locals all there.
https://www.roku.com/offers Some of these require a sub, many are free, including PBS. Note that SLING has ESPN.

http://www.usmagazine.com/entertainm...y-2016-w160596 Netflix is mostly movies & TV series.
