Phoenix, SHLD up 7% today. They still are fooling some. I wouldn't want to be holding this bag of sh#* when it hits the fan.

Billy, you probably have already seen this, but it is an interesting analysis of who might gain from Sears' demise.

River, Thanks, I hadn't seen that article. Sears has deteriorated so far I don't know that it will make that much difference if Best Buy/Lowes/Home Depot get all the remaining Sears appliances. It won't hurt them though. Bought our last wash machine at Lowes based on consumer reviews and price. Funny they didn't have one on display, but had it back in the warehouse. A top loader, no agitator, 10 year warranty. I can't find a name on it. I think it's an LG. Works great, very quiet.

Eddie must be fighting himself since a sears associate is nowhere to be found.

            Sears shares soared 16%
on Wednesday after the company announced a tire service partnership with Amazon (AMZN). "Let me be the first one to acknowledge we are on the right path but we haven't gotten over the hump. We need to convert our vision into reality," CEO Eddie Lampert declared. Under the deal, Sears (NASDAQ:SHLD) will install tires sold by Amazon at its U.S. auto centers.

My LG is 14 years old. It can play the national anthems of 32 countries depending upon the sequence of buttons you push.

I'll have to play with the buttons on mine. It doesn't seem to have much of a play list.

I don't know the answer to your question. I did try shorting and buying a put with Schwab just now and both times was told one could call them and possibly pay a fee to cover the cost of borrowing shares.

They’re still Hard to Borrow (HB) with my broker, meaning they can’t (easily) be shorted. It all depends on whether or not a particular broker has found shares not already lent that are held by someone willing to lend them. Shares being shorted can come from a variety of sources including: 1) From another trader who holds shares in their margin account, 2) From the broker's own inventory, or 3) From another broker with inventory. Even though a stock is on the HB list, doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t short it. Sometimes, but not always, if you call your broker and tell them you really want to short a stock on the HB list, they will make an effort to see if they can locate some shares for the transaction. Unfortunately, getting your broker to assist like this will probably end up costing you a much higher fee, however, because they will charge you for a broker assisted transaction rather than an online transaction.
