Ernie Barsamian, chief executive of storage brokerage The Tank Tiger, in a note to clients wrote a poem:

“We all agree that Yahoo Messenger was the natural habitat/For traders to discuss whether the market was volatile or flat…/Now Yahoo thinks they are the windshield and we are the gnat.”

Ernie Barsamian, chief executive of The Tank Tiger, even wrote an untitled poem encouraging his contacts to move from Yahoo Messenger to Intercontinental Exchange’s ICE Instant Messaging.

Once upon a time there was Yahoo Messenger Chat
And everyone in the oil biz bantered there tit-for-tat,
Scheduling barges, pricing deals, fighting like dog and cat
Then you’d settle down, make a deal and become a diplomat

I mean, everyone had a Yahoo IM, even Linda Ronstadt
Whether you’re pulling for a Republican, or Hillary the Democrat
We all agree that Yahoo Messenger was the natural habitat
For traders to discuss whether the market was volatile or flat

One day, Marissa Mayer decided to take her turn at bat
And the bling bling bling IM spun around and just went splat
Now Yahoo thinks they are the windshield and we are the gnat
They had thousands of subscribers, one would think they were fat

But we’re just victims once again of some insensitive bureaucrat
No such things as a free lunch (or instant messenger) was the caveat
Now I’m just a storage broker, by no means a technocrat
But when a company like Yahoo is this stupid, I don’t need a thermostat

What was once a novelty, Yahoo IM, a whole trading industry it begat
But Marissa Mayer abandoned us like old underwear at a laundromat
Without much for us to do, or a line in the sand to combat
The oil industry will not be some thoughtless technology executive’s doormat

This will be another of Yahoo’s bonehead decisions, mark that down as a stat
Have no fear my friends, for ICE messenger is the solution to all of that
I’ve already made the change, it’s seamless and no data to format
To go from Yahoo to ICE you need not be computer expert or acrobat

I made the migration and all of my groups and contacts are in ICE, down pat
It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3 – now I’m sitting back with an Ice cold Blue from LaBatt
