Phoenix, You must be a mind reader. I was just going to post a similar thread. Can someone explain SNAP to me in simple terms. Is it a big deal or not so hot?

Billy this should prove interesting: "Snapchat has become so popular that its number of users has doubled that of popular movie-streaming company, Netflix (NFLX)—Snapchat boasted 158 million users at the end of 2016, while Netflix published that it had 75 million."

Check out this short explanation! http://www.cnbc.com/2017/03/02/snaps...lly-works.html

My personal experience with Snapchat (mostly via my teenage kids and my work in IT) is that it started out as an app mostly used for "sexting", and grew into a more legit instant messaging platform for images. My kids use the snapchat app to make cute little pics of themselves with computer generated animations added. Every teen or twenty-something with a smart phone uses it daily.

Huge brand. If they plan to monetize via ad revenue, then they could do well.

Twitter is baffling. How do they not find a way to turn that into some $?

Silliness with this IPO. "At $34 billion, each of Snap's daily active users is worth $215, six and a half times per user what Facebook paid for Instagram." http://www.cnbc.com/2017/03/03/new-y...valuation.html

Well, if you go by those two examples, 6 months seems to be about the time you can expect the IPO luster to have worn off. Either would have been a good buy for a quick 25-40% profit at that point. But long-term, one turned out a winner, and one a loser.

SNAP could very well go either way, so the lesson here is, if it's working out, take the profit while you can! (and if you see it's not working out, cut your losses short)
