Ah yes, the Tour. Looking forward to it. BTW, did anyone here pick up that a Dutchman won the Giro d’Italia?

Bike riding is a great sport with many health benefits, but it can present hazards. I still remember at the age of 11 riding down to my local branch to pick up papers for delivery to my customers. Folks at that time bike helmets were non existent , and I can still remember trying to avoid a collision with another biker going over the handle bars and landing on the road ......fortunately for me NO injuries were sustained other than a few scrapes . Now if I were to repeat that incident today , I would probably wind up in the bone box. A friend of mine had also gotten into a bike accident many years later with a lady leaving a supermarket driveway . He found himself on the engine hood of a car , with his bike all busted up ......but he himself intact. He never rode another bike after that accident.
Another colleague of mine was stopped at a light , and an older man behind him had a sugar attack, temporarily blacked out and rammed his motorcycle from behind sending my friend about 150 skidding along the highway .......his coffin was closed at the funeral home!
So now I will stick to WALKING a safer exercise for me!

Yes walking is for me, and I try to do at least 15 miles per week, weather permitting. I love walking outdoors especially on a nice sunny day with blue skies and temps in the 70's . I put on my I-Pod with Bose Ear Plugs, and receive a terrific sound and the buds are designed not to fall from your ears ............and they don't!
I like the older tunes and this is one of my favorites https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dryt6duE_jg reminds me of past romances , and puts me in an absolute wonderful frame of mind.
Karel I wish you safe biking .........stay healthy!

I was on the square in Albuquerque a few years ago - Inca Gold was playing a free concert - I learned to enjoy the pan flute there - here is a version of many lovers favorite song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kpWllK3VgI

Yes very relaxing ........back in the day at the college bar Tierny's in Montclair NJ ..I can still remember listening to some sweet music that sounded even better after a Depth Charge i.e. which was a shot of whiskey into a draft beer! LOL Now of course much later in life, it is just a small glass of red wine like NANDO Chianti for relaxation!

I once worked with a Dutchman who used two bicycles (albeit not at the same time) to get to work each day. He would ride one from his home to the train station, leave the bike there, ride the train to another station where he had another bike waiting and then ride that bike to his office. Reversing the process at the end of the day.

I watch almost ever second of Le Tour each year, at least as many seconds as the TV broadcasts permit. The biking is interesting but the scenery is absolutely beautiful, possibly the prettiest event on TV. Plus I always thought I would enjoy doing a sport where-in the participants consume up to 6000 calories per day and remain rail thin.

I watch for the beautiful scenery too - also the mountain stages are brutal - it is crazy watching some of the riders fall off the back of the peloton.
