we're working on it...we had to switch over for a number of reasons..Richard should be sending out an email shortly. I noticed with this format, you can "subscribe" to threads so you get email notifications on posts..kind of like the old Yahoo way, if you liked that.

          annual report out for OFG

P.S. I guess the new format might have its advantages... just haven't had the chance to see 'em yet. Anyway, it's your site- you're the boss.

hey! OFG made it back to 31, just about where we bought it. In fact if you count the (ever increasing) 2% yield, finally up on this one!

Looks like this one is on a steady track for a certain 15%.

Once again, a fine pick, $$MM... You are HUGE!!!

Tuesday November 30, 3:14 pm ET

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 30, 2004--The Board of Directors of Oriental Financial Group (NYSE:OFG - News), a leading financial holding company in Puerto Rico, today increased the Company's quarterly cash dividend by 10.71% on current shares outstanding and also declared a 10% stock dividend.
Oriental has increased its cash dividend in each of the last three years. In addition, it paid stock dividends of 10% each in January 2004 and March 2002 and declared a 5-for-4 stock split in January 2003.

"The increase in our cash dividend - a result of our solid earnings performance - is in keeping with our long-standing policy of sharing growth with our stockholders and encouraging long-term ownership," said Jose Enrique Fernandez, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer.

A cash dividend of $0.155 per common share, up from $0.14 paid previously, will be payable on January 14, 2005 to holders of record on December 30, 2004. The ex-dividend date will be December 28, 2004. The 10% stock dividend will be payable on January 17, 2005 to holders of record December 31, 2004. The ex-dividend date will be December 29, 2004.

Following the distribution of the stock dividend, the regular quarterly cash dividend on the common stock will be adjusted to $0.14 per share, reflecting the additional shares issued. Cash in lieu of stock will be paid for fractional stock dividend shares based on the price at the market close on the record date of the stock dividend.

              EARNINGS,EARNINGS,EARNINGS.....This stock is HUUUUUUUGE!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know if there's a difference between a "special'" dividend like the 3.00 per share one MSFT just paid and the 10% dividend that OFG will pay? I assume that shares of OFG will open 10% lower around December 29th. How does a "special" dividend differ from a dividend that is 10% but not referred to as "special"?

this is all just my understanding of it, and could be wrong (please correct me if I am) but "special" dividends are just non-recurring dividend, meaning it's not a quarterly, or monthly, or yearly dividend, it's just extra, or "special". The difference here is that you get a 10% increase in your # of shares, and the expense of the share price, so really it's just like a split. While dividends are taxed, a split, or a share dividend won't be until you sell the shares. You end up getting stock for a 0 cost basis, but that event doesn't trigger taxes like a cash dividend does. Selling it for a profit will, so just hang onto those shares and you won't have to pay the IRS anything, except for tax on the cash dividends they actually pay you in dollars. (oh yeah, since it's in PR, you also get to pay the PR taxes on that!)

thebign1 , jiesen , Thanks for the information. I'm in OFG at 30.48. Feeling a little guilty getting these Mr.Market bargains, but it has always worked out in the past.

when I make an extra buck, I never feel guilty about it. the corollary to that is, when I lose a buck, I blame only myslef.

congrats on getting the bargain. I do the same every chance I get.

This may be a great time to pick up more OFG . Check out the weekly chart. I seriously doubt if this will tank after announcing a 10% stock dividend coming up in little more than 3 weeks.

                            I picked up a bunch @ $30.00 today!
This is a win/win situation. It could hit the target price as it get's closer to the ex-divey date or you can hold it & it will keep on paying you!

OFG dropped 7 consecutive days , but not on great volume. After yesterday's gain I'm only down .49 . Hope that is a handle on the right side and not something else.
