  • VLO vs. KCS vs. EPEX

    Hello,

I am a complete newbie to all of this, so forgive me. I ran through Karel's tutorial on using the MSN Money screens, exporting to excel, then calculating the r^2 and sorting. I came up with VLO KCS and EPEX. First of all, I'm not 100% sure I did everything correctly, but it's an odd coincidence that the three stocks with the highest r^2 values are all in the Gas&Oil sector.

    Thoughts?

    Hello Massive,

I ran my screens on monday morning (European time) for my Marketocracy fund, and got exactly the same top three. That the top three consists of three gas&oil stocks is more or less coincidence. Stocks that have been doing rather well the last twelve months are routinely picked up by the screens. And gas&oil stocks as a group certainly did well in that period. Of course, so did other stocks, and next week may show a completely different picture. The reason is the "close to the 52-week high" criterion. If a stock retraces a bit more (not unlikely), it doesn't pass the screen. Next week (or tomorrow) it may have gained back ground, show up again on the screen, and perhaps push out one of the current top 3.

    The (fantasy) fund bought VLO.

    Regards,
