    "New America" suspicions

The "New America" section in a certain financial publication has always seemed somewhat odd to me. They often appear at random and are very vague as to the requirements to be included in the category. Often the date indicated seems to refer to newly issued shares of existing equities , but doesn't elaborate. They claim a 137% gain since 1998 , but don't exactly tell how they calculated the gain. They state that stocks are dropped exactly 6 months after the first 'writeup' but I believe others are dropped and quietly disappear if they tank before six months. If you have also noticed any of these peculiarities or could clear up any of my concerns , please do . I'll admit to not understanding everything I read about the stock market. Maybe it's just me. Thanks

I've had the same suspicions about the IBD 100 and other groupings that have been touted to have spectacular returns vs. the market. If they calculated the return of the stock since it first appeared in the list, that would be a magnificent performance.

Calculating a historical return of a stock that has just been added to a list is really kind of meaningless.
