I have 22 consecutive profitable trades of 15% or better. How is this possible? Every day there are hundreds of stocks setting new highs, no matter what happens in the overall market. Many of these stocks are still at very reasonable valuations. Afraid of buying stocks at their highs? Think of it this way: a new high is really a future floor for companies with solid financial underpinnings. Quantitative momentum modeling makes it easy to identify stocks that can continue this upward momentum trend. Why does this happen? It's really very simple..ask me about what investors and cows have in common. I am $$$ MR. MARKET $$$. I AM HUGE!!! Bring me your finest meats and cheeses. You can join in on the fun. Individual investors should consider speaking with a professional investment adviser before making any investment decisions.)

Dave,
I had to ask you this. Was post of the week intentional (POTW) portfolio of the week or not. Peter's post makes the axiom about cowboys and their love for their horses much more meaningful.
Also, I'm still confused about the reasons why the 5% penalty exists at all.
Because Lye is the scorekeeper...and that's his rule...He asked for volunteers to take over the duties...Whoever volunteers can make up their own rules...Scifos...Did I see you raise your hand???
I'm just playin' w/ you...But in a way I am serious...Scorekeeping is not a walk in the park...I'll make the same offer here as I did to IBD to moderate their forums...$250k...And if you guys pay me you can email me all you want with your "Rules" suggestions...Doug(IIC)

Well if you were incapacitated by being in the hospital, out of town due to a family death or illness, called away for armed service duty, or any number of situations where there was a really strong reason for missing the POTW for those weeks then you should be granted recourse for missing. But we all know the rules an Lye set them up and we have to live with them. But my own feelings would be that there are extenuating circumstances that would dictate excusing the rules. So that's why I asked. The penalty exists to keep people in the game, maintain the number of players every week so as to keep the final percentages on an even playing field by everyone playing the same number of weeks, etc.. Lye also included a cash position so that anyone could stay in cash for any period of time during the week without holding a stock just so that anyone would be considered as in that week but wouldn't have to actually be holding a position.
I was just curious as to the reason for not playing. Would it be fair for you to have your final % figured on 49 wks. an everyone else's on 52 wks. You know what I'm getting at. But if the reasons were strong enough then you should be exempted from the penalty for those two weeks but not otherwise.
Also, I'm still confused about the reasons why the 5% penalty exists at all.
Scifos.... why? Why? WHY? did you miss the POTW for three weeks?.... I must know details in order to make the call on abating the penality. After I've compiled all the facts I will talk the matter over with my trusted secret POTW board of directors.... Scifos.... I am a just and honorable man. But I need complete disclosure for your POTW file.
lol I love this thread.
1. billyjoe, prayers are with ya dude.
2. Runner, dude, if you don't play, I'll be forced to short ELN in protest. .
3. Peter Hansen, now there's a short that I think rocks (STEM).
4. The Vulcan's with 7 wins and No.1 all time! Congrats on an impressive feat dude.
Karel, maybe we should open a new thread for "POTW, Rules Discussion" I have a few more things to add, if anyone is interested.
I think the best place to discuss the rules is over here. But before you start giving suggestions, ask yourself if they are real improvements, not just more to your liking, and whether they don't cost too much work. Because I am completely with Doug on this one. This is Lye's baby, he makes the rules. That doesn't place the rules above discussion, but they are not too bad as they are. The 5% penalty looks silly, but an "I am in cash" post is easy, and an "I am in cash/XYZ the next three weeks" is easy too. Lye even seems inclined to waive the rule when people miss the contest for idealistic reasons, like protesting the Florida gun laws, if I read correctly. <ducks and runs>

Karel
