    billyjoe,

first of all, all my best to you during the surgery and recovery. I really hope all goes well. Now your daughter will get to visit you!! I hope your family had a great holiday season!

I have you carved in stone for a CA$H position until Feb 16. If I hear from you prior to that time, I can change it, and if I don't, I'll extend it.

          Peanuts,
Good luck with running the POTW this year or for as long as your stewardship runs. Thanks for picking it up and running with it.

A loss bigger than 3% this week will hurt your yearly results pertty hard. Good luck!

Glad you're playing. Help me out if you see that I need it.

I don't think I'll put nearly the same amount of time and energy that Rob did last year. That guy was amazing! I plan on tracking the results simply in Yahoo! Portfolios, and then making a nice write-up at the end of the week.

If you, or anyone, sees anything that can be improved upon, or you wish that something was added to the contest, please let me know, and I'll see what I can do. This is the Forum's contest... I'm just the scorekeeper

On the other hand, a gain greater than 3% would help pretty well. Of course, the same could be said of any pick, could it not?

yup, it could also really help you if the earnings report is stellar. That's what I was talking about... holding through earnings. I'm not sure I'll do that as a trading technique in 07. I got burned by AEY last year....

Use options and limit risk. Example: last quarter RIMM was selling a $75 option at $1.10 the day before earnings. The stock was then $73.75 or so. For $110 you could have participated in the run up for a $6500 gain (per contract).

You also risk a 100% loss of that $110 investment, or at least a high percentage of it assuming the tide turns against you, and you manage to get out in a timely manner. That's the trouble with playing options vs. the underlying stock itself. Sure, stocks can lose it all too, but virtually always giving you a very long time to escape with a sizable portion of your initial investment intact.
