  • Poll #3--A call to Ernie to dump 2 stocks NOW

The goal of keeping this "streak" can get in the way of optimal portfolio management IMHO, for I think in the long run everyone is better served by cutting losses (for instance if fundamentals change) and moving on rather than holding stocks just for the sake of an alleged streak. Thus here is the survey question for you all. I would propose to Ernie that he dump WSB and NARA. So the question is do you think Ernie should just suck it up, sell the stocks, and don't worry about the "streak"?

He should only sell if he feels like it. Many of his picks do hit his target price within 6 weeks or so. Though some don't and take longer. I have seen a pick take over 1 year to reach the 15% target.

One only needs to make 2 successful picks a year to have a great return.
Does not matter if it takes 6 weeks or 6 months. 15% twice a year is great return.

A very cogent argument, Junior. I couldn't have said it better myself. However I also don't have the stones to put all my eggs in one stock!

sell NARA? not a good move

          So let's see, Bruce...

If Ernie sold NARA per your recommendation at the open on 9/29, he'd have missed out on the HUGE 10% run this stock is on over the past 3 days.

BAD IDEA in my opinion. Go take your 100% cash and start a board to talk about that. Your advice on stocks stinks.

            A Tribute to Your Style

Your goal of breaking Ernie's "streak" can get in the way of exchanging useful ideas IMHO, for I think in the long run everyone is better served by patience with stock in companies that make money (especially when fundamentals have not changed) and there is nothing wrong with holding for a long-term gain that will be taxed at a lower rate.

Moving on rather than holding stocks just for the sake of changing stocks only feeds the sycophant leeches of the financial industry [i.e. most financial planners and brokers.] Thus your survey is a self-serving, egotistical way for you to try and justify your existence.
I would propose to Ernie that he dump you as a member. So the question is NOT, "do you think Ernie should just suck it up, sell the stocks, and don't worry about the 'streak'"; the question really is, "Why are you so obsessed with getting Ernie to sell a stock at a loss?"

For the record...I did "dump" NARA, although not for a loss that Bec was begging for...
