    The Tanner Fund

Funny ChrisZ brings it up, I am currently in a class called the Tanner Fund. We will be actively investing 250,000 of the schools money. Next class period we will begin to use the Bloomberg to collect information in helping us select our picks.

There are 15 kids in the class and each of us will be selecting a stock to analyze over the course of the semester. At the end of the semester we give our presentations of our findings and vote whether or not we will be purchasing shares of the companies we researched. Any ideas of what stock I should pick?? I think I might go with Eln or Nutr because I currently own both but I am open to any suggestions, and will be running my old screen to find a hidden gem (hopefully). What do the Mrmarketer's thing??? Of course I want to pick a stock that will be bought in May and bring the HUUUGGGEST amount of gains to the fund.

What makes it hard is that we pick the stock in the beginning of May then basically have no affiliation with the fund after that. Then the next batch of Managers comes in and votes to keep our stocks or toss them and induct their picks in Dec.

    Thanks
    TJK

    Buy a dividend

    Toyko,

My advice would be to buy a Can (see my thread). Oil and natural gas will continue to be in demand, and these are safe investments. Besides, over the last 5 years, they have averaged a return of 27%-35% per year. What's wrong with that?

Wow New Born your thread was very enlightening. I have been sour on the market as of late and will probably buy a few cans myself. I am also in a Special Topics trading class and we started discussing oil and natural gas. From what I can remember correctly is if the price of oil keeps increasing and our demand for both gas/oil keeps increasing they are going to start liquifying natural gas for shipping reasons. If this becomes widespread and gas becomes more accessable from the east do you think it would hurt the gas business in Canada?

          Hello from Monroe

          Toyko,

Will it hurt the Canadian gas business? NO. They'll liquify it too. By the way, CHINA wants to buy Canadian gas/oil. The Cans will go up.

Good time to buy these Cans is January 27 to Feb 5. Probably best day to buy is near open at January 3.
