Completely Off Topic: 4 Days Marches in Nijmegen

    Hi!

It is fun to see our city slowly filling with people in sturdy walking boots and other paraphernalia that characterize the Long Distance Walker. When they start, in the early morning of the third Tuesday of July, there will be 45,000+ of them, ready for their 4 days of 30, 40 or 50 Km (19, 25, or 31 miles) each. Not all of them will reach the finish on the fourth day. It is the worlds biggest walking event, and also one of the worlds largest sporting events.

Even bigger is the 4 Days Festival, which expects 1,000,000 participants over those four days and the weekend following, watching the walkers and cheering them on, and partying! (And leaving more than a whiff of burnt beef and stale beer every morning...)

I will be one of the lookers on.

    Regards,

Karel (your special reporter from Nijmegen, The Netherlands)

Sounds like fun. I'm going to have to get in on it one day.

Karel when I was in the Army my platoon was selected to partake in the Nijmegen foot march. It was an awesome experience. My entire platoon made it. You would not believe the training we went through just to get there. My commander rewarded us buy a bus ride to Germany and we went into a Infantry field exercise for 1 month. What a time that was imagine 40 guys who just walked 4 days straight and then having to train in the woods for another 30 days...

I hope you have a wonderful time!!
