Hi!
It is fun to see our city slowly filling with people in sturdy walking boots and other paraphernalia that characterize the Long Distance Walker. When they start, in the early morning of the third Tuesday of July, there will be 45,000+ of them, ready for their 4 days of 30, 40 or 50 Km (19, 25, or 31 miles) each. Not all of them will reach the finish on the fourth day. It is the worlds biggest walking event, and also one of the worlds largest sporting events.
Even bigger is the 4 Days Festival, which expects 1,000,000 participants over those four days and the weekend following, watching the walkers and cheering them on, and partying! (And leaving more than a whiff of burnt beef and stale beer every morning...)
I will be one of the lookers on.
Regards,
Karel (your special reporter from Nijmegen, The Netherlands)
