Have been bombarded by e-mails urging participation in oil sands stocks in Alberta Canada. An individual named Mike Schaefer is touting an oil sands stock that has just received 399 Million from the world's top Zinc producer to invest in the project. The stock currently trades for around $4.50 per share and supposedly is up 107% in 6 months. The property contains 3 billion barrels of oil. He believes the stock is way undervalued and is worth conservatively $19 per share. Does anyone know this individual or the stock he touts? Could be pie in the sky or the real McCoy ! Any help with this matter would enlighten us all.......Thanx!

Mike Schaffer
This Mike Schaffer is kinda good; kinda bad. Yeah, he pumps small stocks, but the guy flat out knows what he's talking about when he talks about oil stocks. He charges $499 per year to get his plays, but like I said, he knows what he's talking about. I'd carefully consider what he says about oil sands. The fact is that oil sands in Canada is two Saudi Arabias, but it takes Natural Gas to extract the oil from the sand. UTS is probably a good buy--I'll have to check it out.
The bad part about him? He pumps the little stocks pretty hard, and if he thinks they need a push, he'll send out free emails to everyone this side of China begging them to buy his penny stock. It usually works, too. The next day the stock will bounce right up.

Here's UTS
Peter--
Here's the chart on UTS.TO (Toronto Stock Exchange). Nice chart. Minor cup with handle. Looks like it ought to be good for another $1. Schaeffer is a buy and hold guy, and targets this one for $19. Dick Cheney came up to look this one over this month.
Just remember: oil sands require hot water to extract oil from the sand. That hot water must come one of two ways: via a nuclear reactor (in Canada! FORGET IT! Tree huggers!), or natural gas (EXPENSIVE!).
Here's a previous pump by Mike: StormCat Energy. The company--according to VectorVest, is worth $4+ per share. Mike has quit pumping this one. Would you like evidence? Look at the volume . . . .
I have bought and sold StormCat several times. Its been good to me, and I think it is near a decent entry point. With oil/natural gas, how wrong can you go?

Sqnc
Sequoia has a product called DiamondFlo which in some of their testing at University of Houston removed 95%of the oil from tar sands. They claim it is more cost effective than present means for separating sand and oil. They have been pretty quiet lately supposedly working on a patent. Who knows? But it is selling for .07 a share. New Born thnx for your excellent analysis......I was unfamiliar with the power requirements for extraction of product from the oil sands. I did hear Chenny went to visit .....wonder what he thought of the whole concept? I am definitely goung to watch this thing .....but will not jump in yet . One can never be to cautious with these cheap stox......most are just pie in the sky and never work out.

Toby Smith (Change wave)Touts UTS Energy
Toby Smith Change wave is now recommending UTS.TO as a "10 Bagger"......he says that by 2008-2009 it should be worth 12 bucks per share. Guys this is nota quick get rich stock, and the only problem I see is that money tied up for 4-5 yrs is dead money. Toby predicts that oil will flow in 2008-2009 at the rate of 190,000 barrela per day for at least 40 yrs at a cost of 10 dollars per barrel after ALL extraction and refining costs are figured in. He says he will personally hold until 2010, but will keep in his Godchilds' accounts for the long haul. I am watching this one but have not taken the plunge yet.........it may be a longshot for my daughter's Roth Ira account?

Tom's Pink Sheets
Tom,
Call Scottrade and ask 'em about buying pink sheets. When I was with them, the answer was 'no.' Ameritrade: yes. What you need to do instead, which is much better anyway, is buy it yourself on the Canadian side on the TSX. How? Interactive Brokers. Forget the $7 Scottrade charge; try $1 per hundred for US; or $2 Canadian for Canadian stocks. Streaming quotes. Charts. Come on Tom: join the big leagues.
What's Kurt Wolfe's site again? New computer here and lost all my site addresses.
