I posted the above on 03/08/05.... I just had the film developed today and here is a picture of that fire. It's grainy because of it being 35mm converted by Walmart onto a CD. The actual photo looks better. Hard to beat digital photography imo....Originally posted by Lyehopper View Post....have you heard about the forest fire on the BlueRidge right behind WW Boxley (started Saturday)? Originated near Villamont and goes on into Montvale.... it has burned over 3k acres now! The entire side of the mountain, all the way up to the parkway is charred.... The dude who dumped his woodstove ashes near the woods behind his house is in deep do-do.lol....I saw on the news last evening that they'll fine him $100k-$200k for the cost of fighting the fire.... The "US Forestery Service" has a helicopter dumping water (from the "Peaks of Otter" lake) on it....
I took some (tripod) pictures Monday night from a hilltop pasture (on my farm) of the fire. As I had the shudder open (manually) on my 35mm this HUGE flame shot up about 150 ft (estimate) I got it on film. I guess a big ol dead pine or hemlock caught fire and made that flare up. The fire is about eight miles from my farm (as the crow flies) Fortunately the wind has kept the smoke out of our valley, for the most part. I was in Troutville Monday and it was all smokey all the way over there.... I'll post the pics when I develop the roll.
I posted the above on 02/20/05.... The rabbit hunting pics were on the same roll. Here's a picture of me and my rabbit hunting buddies. This picture was taken on my farm near where I snapped those forest fire pictures.... The forest fire was in the opposite direction though.... I positioned my camera on the dog box on the tuck, set the auto timer, then ran over and got in the picture, my buddy "Kenny" was looking at a toothpick.SsSsSsssss!Originally posted by Lyehopper View PostI've got some good rabbit hunting pics I took last month. They're in my 35mm. When I use up the roll and get em developed, I'll post one of the "gang"....
Here's a picture of Kenny.... Looks a lot like Elmer Fudd if you ask me.jejeje!

Well...this Sony Digital Camera is really confusing me...The instruction Book is about 50 pages...Why can't they just have a BASIC page...Geez
Ya know...originally I taught my wife all this VHS and DVD stuff...But I don't even know how it works anymore...In fact...we have 3 different remote phones in the house...I hardly know how to use them...I rarely answer the phone anyway unless I recognize the name or number...Which isn't often...All my important calls come on my Cell anyway.
I don't even know how to use the coffee pot.
Reminds me of back in the 80's...My Granny called and said someone gave her a computer...She wasn't interested in learning how to use it...So she said I could come over and take it...I did...But it was a 10 key calculator...
Oh well...I guess I better get back to the instruction book...I've used digital cameras before...But this one is complicated

Here ya go Billy..... You know? One of the wealthiest men I personally know owns an insurance agency, and he's always got a car or two for sale on the side. He just sold a mint condition "1961" Corvette to another buddy of mine for a HUGE chunk-0-change....Originally posted by billyjoe View PostI'm not too handy with computers so could anyone tell me how I could put

But seriously...Back in 1970 when I was a Jr. in High School we had to take one of those Kuder Occupational Tests...I don't remember any of my scores, however, the Top score I got was "Used Car Salesman".
One job that I think I would be excellent at is selling High Risk Auto Insurance...When I had my little advertising company I had 5 or 6 Insurance Brokers as clients...Near as I could tell from talking to them they made an average of $10 in commissions for evey dollar they spent with me...Of course they had expenses but that always sounded pretty good to me...Doug

Actually, it was during prohibition and he was drinking really bad bathtub gin, and a lot of it. It's thought that the toxins in the stuff hastened his demise, and were the cause of most of his uncontrollable behavior. Remember the old movie with Kirk Douglas, "Young Man With a Horn"? That was the Hollywood version of his story. There are also some good VHS & DVD documentaries available. The books Joe Mosbrook mentioned are really interesting reading! Sadly, Bix really was an alcoholic and died at the age of 28 in 1931. But his music lives on! RiverbabeOriginally posted by billyjoe View PostRiver,
Interesting stuff. Musical genius that he was, I'll bet there was more going on than just alcoholic breakdowns. That seemed to be an easy explanation for the unusual behavior at that time. Remember stories of Grover Cleveland Alexander ? They always assumed he was playing baseball drunk when it actually was epileptic episodes. Didn't Bix die very young?
