    Yahoo Historical Quotes Downloader.xls

Just thought I'd put this up here for anyone who needs or wants to download historical data from Yahoo Finance.

End Date is automatically set to the current date.
Start Date is set to 140 days in the past. Feel free to change either of these
Put in the tickers you want in column B under 'Symbol' and push the 'Get Prices' button. Excel will save a .csv file for each ticker in the same directory as the workbook.

I also have one that creates a new sheet in the workbook for each symbol if you don't want all the seperate files, but it is 10x slower.

Edit: I guess I can't upload it to the forum. PM me if you are interested and I can email it to ya. It's pretty slick.

OK, here is the downloader. I finally succeeded in uploading it, after some fiddling. There seemed to be something wrong with the upload permissions. Anyway. I zipped the file together with the (necessary!) Data folder.

              Regards,

                  Karel,

When I click on "Get Prices", I get a disabled macros message. What is the magic word to get this thing running?

                  Thanks.

In excel, click on "Tools" then "Macros" then "Security" and set to "Medium". Close excel and re-open the file. It will say macros can be dangerous and ask if you want to enable them for this file. Click yes and you're set.

Oh, if any one is interested i programmed a Historical Data downloader a while back too. Its just that i found yahoo only lets you do about 6 months at at time, I programmed something that you could just click sp500 or ftse 100 etc, put a date to start and end and click ok. (it still uses yahoo data)

(- just in case you cant get this one going)

so you can download thousands of stock data in one go, there is a free piece of software out there already(called metastock) its a free trail of about 3 months i think, then u have to pay.

Anyway if any one is interested email me at : rickyjwhoop@hotmail.com

(don’t worry I don’t charge). I just have to check its all still working correctly first and if its still easy to deploy, haven’t used it in a few months.

I'd like a copy of your historical data from Yahoo Finance if you don't mind.
                          Thanks.
