    Mr Market Stock Contest 2006

    Close on 6/16/2006

    Nobody is $$$HUGE$$$ this week!!!

Well...Bad news for the portfolio...Overall we go red YTD at a dismal
    -2.43%.

About the only bright spot was Stocks54 who moves up to 3rd place with ELN +4.32% this week.

Our A/D/U for the week was 6/20/0 and our YTD remained 10/16/0.

Now for the worst part...For the first time in recorded history we are worse than CSSGX which checks in at -2.39% YTD.

I use the open on 1/3/06 for the indices and the close on 1/3/06 for the CSSGX because funds are only priced at eod.

La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company Files Marketing Authorization Application for European Regulatory Approval of Riquent
      Thursday June 22, 7:30 am ET SAN DIEGO, June 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --

La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company (Nasdaq: LJPC - News) today announced that its Marketing Authorization Application (MAA) has been accepted for review by the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) for potential approval to market Riquent® (abetimus sodium), its drug candidate for lupus renal disease, in the European Union (EU). The MAA was filed with the EMEA on March 31, 2006.

The EMEA's review of the application will follow their centralized marketing authorization procedure. If approved, Riquent will receive marketing authorization in all 25 EU member states as well as Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. Riquent has already received orphan medicinal product designation in Europe, which will provide ten years of market exclusivity from the date of EU authorization. Riquent also has orphan drug status and fast track status in the United States.

Riquent is the first drug candidate specifically developed for the treatment of lupus renal disease, a leading cause of sickness and death in lupus patients.
"The acceptance of our MAA filing is a significant step toward our goal of providing a safer treatment to patients who suffer both from lupus renal disease and from the side effects of current therapies used in its treatment," said Deirdre Y. Gillespie, M.D., President and CEO of La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company. "It is also a major milestone in our focused corporate effort to guide Riquent toward full approval in Europe and the United States. We anticipate that the EMEA's initial response and questions concerning our application will come later this year, and a final decision should come in 2007."
The MAA filing includes data from the previously completed Phase 3 and Phase 2/3 clinical trials of Riquent, in which treatment with Riquent was assessed for its ability to increase time to renal flare in comparison to placebo. A renal flare is caused by inflammation in the kidney that destroys kidney tissue and/or reduces or stops kidney filtration. Renal flare can result in the progression to end-stage renal disease, the need for dialysis, or death.
      * In both trials, patients treated with Riquent benefited by an increased
time to renal flare compared to patients treated with placebo, although
the results did not reach statistical significance as defined in the
      protocols.

      * Riquent treatment reduced levels of antibodies to double-stranded DNA
(dsDNA), which experts believe are responsible for lupus renal disease.
In both trials, patients with sustained reductions in antibodies to
dsDNA experienced a statistically significant reduction in the number
      of renal flares.

      * After one year of treatment, there was a statistically significant
increase in the number of patients who had a 50% or greater reduction
in proteinuria from baseline in the Riquent-treated group compared with
the placebo-treated group. Proteinuria, or protein in the urine,
      results from ongoing kidney inflammation.

      * Treatment with Riquent has been well tolerated in all clinical studies.
In October 2004, following a review of the Company's New Drug Application for Riquent, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) informed the Company that Riquent was "approvable" pending the successful completion of a clinical benefit trial. The Company is currently conducting a Phase 3 study under a Special Protocol Assessment with the FDA, which is designed to further demonstrate Riquent's ability to delay time to renal flare.
      About Riquent
Riquent is the first drug candidate specifically developed for the treatment of lupus renal disease, a leading cause of sickness and death in lupus patients. The drug candidate has already been evaluated in 13 clinical trials over a 10-year time span that evaluated more than 800 patients and subjects. Riquent has been well tolerated in all of these studies, with no serious side effects identified to date. Riquent's only known biological activity is the reduction of antibodies to dsDNA that are associated with the progression of lupus renal disease and renal flares. In all clinical trials where antibodies to dsDNA were measured, Riquent treatment has significantly reduced these antibody levels. Data generated in the Company's previous Phase 2/3 and Phase 3 trials indicate that patients with lower antibody levels experience significantly fewer renal flares and improved health-related quality of life.
      About Lupus
Lupus, systemic lupus erythematosus or SLE, is a chronic, potentially life-threatening autoimmune disease afflicting several million people worldwide. About 90% of lupus patients are female, and many develop the disease during their childbearing years. Approximately 50% of lupus patients have renal disease, which can lead to irreversible kidney damage, kidney failure and the need for dialysis, and is a leading cause of death in lupus patients. Latinos, African Americans and Asians face an increased risk of serious renal disease associated with lupus. The current standard of care for lupus renal disease often involves treatment with high doses of corticosteroids and immunosuppressive drugs that can cause severe side effects including diabetes, hypertension and sterility, and may leave patients vulnerable to opportunistic infections. In the U.S., no new drug has been approved to specifically treat lupus in 40 years.
      About La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company
La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company is a biotechnology company developing therapeutics for antibody-mediated autoimmune diseases and inflammation afflicting several million people around the world. The Company is developing Riquent® for the treatment of lupus kidney disease, a leading cause of sickness and death in patients with lupus. The Company is also developing small molecules to treat various autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. The Company's common stock is traded on The Nasdaq Stock Market under the symbol LJPC. Mr. Market is $$$HUGE$$$ this week!!!

But nobody else was as our portfolio gained a little bit overall (+0.88%)

Ernie led the week w/ BEL +9.39% and Sirtuck's ABB was +5.14%.

Our A/D/U for the week was 17/9/0 but our YTD dropped a notch to 9/17/0 as Grebnet's APLX went red. Last week's Top 9 were all green.

While all the indices we follow here were red for the week, CSSGX was green and now stands at -0.96% YTD.

I use the open on 1/3/06 for the indices and the close on 1/3/06 for the CSSGX because funds are only priced at eod.

              Doug,
What's your take on the results for the first half of the POTY contest ?
This week probably was the best this year for the celebrity pickers with 16 advancing and only the #16 loser ELOS dropping further into a pit. Results in the morning.

I don't know yet...I do the weekly results on Saturday mornings...But as of last week I am disappointed that the CSSGX was ahead of us...Doug(IIC)

PS...I see I forgot to post our YTD last week...it was -1.57%...So I'd say I am "Not-Thrilled" w/ the results including my own pick.

Lye is $$$HUGE$$$ For The 1st Half of 2006

Well...Half the year is down the drain and although we were up +2.99% this week which brought us into the green again YTD at +1.03%, it has been a rather dismal showing collectivey...Your's truly included.

But there are some bright spots...Lye stormed to the lead with a HUGE 10.6% gain this week w/ ECOL. I remember not too long ago when everyone, except me, thought the contest was over...But a year is a long time....Mickey's BWNG is still right in there...But I suspect something will happen and we'll see somebody new join the hunt for the SUPER DUPER GRAND PRIZE over the summer.

Web's ACW was the leader this week +11.6%, followed by Lye and Sis's DVN +8.5%.

Our A/D/U for the week was 14/11/1 but our YTD remained 9/17/0.

The worst news is that we remain behind CSSGX which is rebounding at +2.29% YTD.

I use the open on 1/3/06 for the indices and the close on 1/3/06 for the CSSGX because funds are only priced at eod.

                          Sleddawg is $$$HUGE$$$ This Week

About the only bright spot this week was Sled's FORD up 35.4%....Another 4 or 5 weeks like that and he'll be right in the thick of things...(Sorry Sled...I couldn't resist). Ski also advanced a coupla slots with GLD.

The race is tightening for 1st with LYE's ECOL and Mickey's BWNG as less than 5% separates them. But the real race at this point is for the bronze with less than 1/2% separating Gary's VLO and DMK and Peter's GG. Actually, I'm rooting for DMK and Peter to NOT place in the Top 3 because I will have to supply an extra prize. The top 3 prizes will be really good...at least IMO...But the prizes for 4th thru 26th won't be that hot...A FREE 2 week trial to IBD for the losers...Sorta like one of those participation trophies they used to give everyone in Little League...I would never put those trophies in my trophy case...Even when I was a kid I always thought those trophies taught people a bad lesson in life..."Don't worry...It's OK to be a loser...You will still be rewarded"

The collective portfolio was -1.66% for the week taking us into the red again YTD at -0.38%...Maybe we all belong over at MarketMillionaires???

Our A/D/U for the week was only 9/17/0 but our YTD jumped a notch up to 10/16/0 as Dio's PFE went green.

The worst news is that we continue to remain behind CSSGX which is still green at +0.29% YTD.

I use the open on 1/3/06 for the indices and the close on 1/3/06 for the CSSGX because funds are only priced at eod.

                            Keep an eye on BWNG!

I played BWNG (short) a few weeks ago for a nice 20%+ gain.... But I really like the stock and I'm stalking a long entry right now.

Sooooo.... Keep an eye on Mickey's BWNG fellas.... As soon as it sells off one more time.... it'll be ripe to buy it and ride it out for another 100% gain.... IMRNO.

                            BEEF!... it's whats for dinner!

Lyehopper, it looks to me as though the gap has, for all intents and purposes, been filled already with that little spike down about a week ago ... and with that TRIX crossing up at that low level, maybe the ~50% Fibonacci retracement will be all this one gets?
