You got it, Stenz, AEIS long at today's close!Originally posted by stenzrob View PostI haven't been following the what-if rules closely, but I haven't got one yet. Put me down for AEIS, long.
For the rest of you who may not have seen my earlier posts about the 'what if' pick, you're allowed to make two 'what if' picks for the year, but only if one is long and the other is short. Other than that, just about anything goes for these picks. You can make any stock your 'what if' pick, as long as I can find a quote for it. Rules are semi-lax on this end of the contest, and subject to change. All prices will be taken from the Friday's close following your pick. So if you pick it at 10pm tonight, you'll get NEXT Friday's close for your entry, and a likely 14% hosing (right, Rob?). But don't sweat it, it's just a game!
The reason for this other side of the POTY is to keep it going and keep it interesting beyond the initial POTY entries, which are already set in place. It also gives those of us too lazy, too busy, or otherwise too distracted by shiny things to make their original picks on time, from the right exchange, etc, a second chance to play side-by-side in a 'what if' contest. So if you're not sure about making your pick, just do it, or ask. It's all in good fun anyway.

my last pick
I guess I still have a "what if" long pick left, so I'll take a stock from my Earnings Growth Greenies List and make it a pick for the year: Give me CCRT as my "what if" long, please.

And for my 'what if' picks, I'm taking
OSUR long and GFCI.PK short.
Notice that I'm picking on a Friday, because that's the day that I lock in the picks. If you want to avoid being a hoser, make your 'what if' picks on Friday!

Quit yer whining, eh?
The contest is for a year. I seriously doubt that the spread between #1 and #2 would be less than 14% at the end of it. But, if it does happen to you, Rob, and you come out #2 by 10%, I'll name you the hoser champion, if it'll make you feel better.Originally posted by Rob View PostI hear ya, Billy. I hear ya, Riv. Imagine starting at 531.10.
I must state here that I am not protesting or suggesting things be changed from the status quo. I'm just glad Jiesen has graciously agreed to handle this contest for us. But if I happen to come in 2nd as calculated from Jan. 12, while calculating from Jan. 1 would happen to place me in the catbird seat, then maybe an asterisk-ed footnote would be in order.
(Of course, the same might be in order for anyone in the contest who winds up in that position.)

Rob,Originally posted by Rob View PostMan, I really got hosed on the kick-off for this contest.
I thought it was supposed to use the opening price from the open on the first trading day of the year (Jan. 3rd), and that the Jan. 12 deadline was only sort of a "grace period" to let late-comers still enter.
Check this out:Opening prices for IMCL:I probably would have still picked IMCL on the 12th, as I did on the 3rd, but man that 14% hurts (for the contest anyway).
1/3/07: 26.85
1/12/07: 30.60
Difference: 13.97%
I also claim a smaller diameter hosing. NYX opening 1/03/07--97.70. NYX opening 1/12/07 106.40. A difference of 8.9%. Any other members of the hosee club? I'm still confident of a nice gain by year's end.

Hey Marlin, thanks for the picks! They both look very good to me. However, I'll have to ask you to pick just one of them as your "what if" long pick. You can make another pick, but it has to be short (I'm trying to get people to play both sides here).Originally posted by MEA_1956 View PostFor my what if's if I my pick to longs, I would like DSX & ROCK. So, which do you like better? DSX or ROCK?
