    gas and watching energy stocks

    about 3-bucks in chicago

some energy stocks -- anybody want to weigh in?

aci (arch coal) did great last week
btu (peabody energy) and vlo (volero) did pretty good last week ...
    cop as well

tpp (teppco) and kmp (kinder morgan energy) at their lows-midrange right now, could shoot for their highs ... in the coming weeks

any of you techies want to weigh in on tpp and kmp (the others might be a chase .. but who knows .. the way energy is going .. might be good to get in on those, too)

as u all know, i'm green (and trying to get greener, in a way

    Graciously,
    Geri

Why would I have any problems? I need 91 octane, and a 50-50 blend of 89 and 93 yields 91. Of course, I only save about $.55 per tank.

With a $.55 per tank savings, I'll be rich in NO TIME!
      Happy investing,

My opinion is worth no more than the price you paid for me to give it.

About two years ago, I bought Mercedes Benz's new diesel car, the E320 CDI....with a fuel injected diesel engine.....I get 37 mpg on the highway and about 25 around town....Since I work at home trading full time, I don't drive much. I average about 8000 miles a year.....I bet I fill my tank about once every 3 weeks. When I go to my local gas station in ohio, it's usually just to buy a six back of Guinness.

Problems? Well, if you don't actually make it 50-50, you won't have enough octane and detonation may occur . . . or perhaps the real requirements of your engine (i.e. in real life operation, not a textbook theory) could be the 93 you are already using. I am just saying going cheap here is no real way to save. 55 cents per tank, compared to $2000 for a new head gasket, or $7500 for an engine rebuild=false economy.

                  Diesel

Lye, I don't know if it's changed, but a couple days ago I noticed that one of those stations (BP I think) on Elm Ave. just off of 581 was selling diesel for cheaper than regular. I think it was $2.69 or something like that. The only reason I remember is becaue I don't recall seeing diesel cheaper than regular in a lonnnnng time.

I normally find diesel fuel prices to be just about equal with mid grade gasoline prices....I drove a Jaguar before and it used premium...So, I win on the front end by saving at the pump and win on the back end by getting better fuel mileage, at least versus Jaguar......And, I don't have a Jaguar with a transmission made in Cincinnati ohio....I wonder who at Ford came up with that bright idea?

High gas prices don't bother folks in Cincinnati, at least not on the east side.....When a new interesting vehicle comes out, I'll see 10 of them almost immediately over a 7 mile stretch of road.....Hummer 2 is a dime a dozen....I even see quite a few H1.....There's a Maserati dealership 7 miles away.....The Reds/Bengals players tool around in Ferraris....I guess the non sports players made their money in Proctor Gamble stock options. The local news has to go to the working class section of Cinci to find folks truly upset by higher gasoline prices.

And speaking of higher oil and gas prices, why doesn't the SEC raise the margin requirements in the futures markets? That's where we're getting robbed, IMO....Raising silver futures margin was what put and end to the Hunt's attempt at cornering the silver market in 1980.

I haven't driven a car since January and don't know when I will again. Trading 3.00 a gallon gas bills for 6 figure medical expenses is not a good idea.

Here is a map of all the current gas prices. It shows which states tax gas the most.

Check out the heat map for average unleaded gas prices around the country for both Canada and the US. Type in your city to see a local gas prices map.

I see these from time to time and I always get a good chuckle. Exxon Mobile doesn't sell gasoline. They pump oil out of the ground and do some of the refining. All the BP, Texaco, Exxon gas stations you see are locally owned franchises, and a gas price war will hurt the local guy much much harder than the big guys. They've made billions lately, how long do you think they can withstand a little demand drop? Probably for several years. At any rate, you can't just target one oil company, there's like 5 or 6 major oil companies (they're so diversified that they are almost immune to demand shocks, especially on just one product, gas). ExxonMobile will just sell its oil to BP or ChevronTexaco if it needs to. And if that doesn't work, the government will bail them out cuz Big Oil owns congress.
                                Buy Low
                                Sell High
                                STAY FROSTY!
