  • Rob, pull up a daily on LEE and look at that nice Bull action. Imagine trying to call a bottom here at higher levels.
Bottom picking can be disastrous IMO, but some people do well at it. I prefer to ID the trend and hope to get on the right side..

CEDC Is Getting Slaughtered This Morning

CEDC reported a strong quarter and is getting creamed this morning. They reported non-GAAP earnings of $0.27 and GAAP earnings of $0.00 per share, with the explanation that this difference "reflects unrealized foreign exchange movements from our Senior Secured Notes," whatever that means. (I have only a vague idea.)

As I'm watching now, it's down about 16%. This is a good company, and I'm tempted to buy here, but I will refrain, because I don't have a good grasp of that "foreign exchange movements" business, and I don't have the time to research it at the moment.

Edit: At 10:42 CEDC sold for 19.31, a 20.7% decline from yesterday's close of 24.36.

        Stagflation?

The jobs report this morning states that 113,000 new jobs were created in July (vs. the 145,000 forecast), indicating that economic growth is slowing a bit. Naturally the stock market loves this number, becaue it bumps up the likelihood of a pause in the fed rate to about 85%. But because no change in the inflation trend has yet appeared, the big question looming is: are we witnessing the return of the dreaded "stag-flation"?

Another One of Those "Could-a, Should-a, Would-a" Situations

yes, I'm afraid we are. I have to think this has much to do with the disjointed relationship between the CPI and actual inflationary price movement.

Well I got all excited on that run up between 11:30 and 12:00 and sold half my puts. The result is that now only half my long position is hedged, but at a net cost of only pennies per share.

                    More Celebrities visit ROB

Yes folks: Rob's thread "Rob's Lobs" has become a real attraction to the Hollywood set. I don't know exactly why; could be that Rob used to do the finish carpentry for these folks. But I suspect the reason is much deeper. Glance through his thread and you'll see Paris Hilton visit, as well as Keira Knightley, and even Martha Stewart in her more sane moments. Just today I noticed another visitor . . . perhaps you've seen him before

                    Anybody know who this is?

Vincent Price was never "the Fly."
And in 1958, Jeff Goldblum was not even alive.

But at least you have the correct movie, so I guess I won't have to swat you.

Wasn't Vincent Price the scientist that turned into the fly in the first version? If not what actor was the first one. I thought Jeff Goldblum was in the 2nd version or remake. I would guess that the guy in the picture is Steve Martin on a Saturday Night Live episode. That stance looks like his. Remember when Dan Akeroyd and Steve played the two crazy and wild eastern European guys looking for chicks. They had that walk and that stance.

                              Ski,
No, Vincent never turned into a fly. It was his "brother" in the film played by David Hedison. Here's the info on it all: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051622/
