If you take a map of Ohio and divide it into 4 somewhat equal sections, these guys were all born in the Northeast Quadrant of the state.

Because Ohio State already had the best coach and they couldn't get his job.

If a top of the line coach wants to win a national championship, he only has 2 options in Ohio. Coach at either Ohio State or Cincinnati. The other colleges in the state have no chance to be voted #1 regardless of their record. The MAC schools , Ohio University, Miami of Ohio, Kent State, Bowling Green, and Akron are in a similar situation to Hawaii. They can go 11-0 and will never get ranked higher than about 10th. The many other Ohio colleges, such as Baldwin Wallace, Heidelberg, Oberlin, etc. are not in division 1-A. We just crank out too many coaches with too few positions to fill in state.

            Doug,
I don't remember seeing you. Was on crutches that summer after another operation and didn't get out much. Did you ever go to the Mansfield Relays? I remember a bald headed runner in the 1600. They said he had been burned in a fire. Ran a 9:00 which was awesome at that time for a high schooler.

                Horrible crashes

I don't know if you want to call this "fun" or not, but it will sober you up to try not to run a red light.

Never heard of the Mansfield Relays...and 9:00 for a mile is not very good...Did you mean 4:00?

In HS I got to go a lot of places...Most fun was the Jr. Olympics in Knoxville, TN 1970...I bombed in the 440 prelims but we won gold in the 880 relay...Met this really cute hurdler from TN...Yes...it was a girl...We corresponded for many years...More places in college till I ripped up my right hamstring when I was a Soph...Amazing (at the time anyway) how people just drop you when you are of no use to them anymore.

Anyway...track was a great experience from when I was a kid till it ended...Unlike Football and Basketball it was a very social experience because in between events and afterwards you could meet a lot of people.

                    Doug,
I was supposed to say 3200 or maybe it was called the 2 mile. What year did high school sports go metric? I'd guess around 1970 at least in Ohio.
They tried metric distances on state highways and gave up on it.

I graduated in 1971 from HS...it was mixed back then but most things were still yds....even in college in 72 and 73 we were mostly still in yds except at big meets

9:00 for the 3200 was very good back then...There were some 2 milers under that but that would've been considered excellent

I showed that clip to all of my children to explain why there will be no motorcycle riding by my children. And running from the police through a red light . . . that was an ugly crash scene.

Hi, I'm Pierre, the guy behind rentyoursoul.com. I'm taking the time here to let you know that there is no catch at all. I'm really paying you 10$ plus another for the charity of your choice. I get my money (well it's pretty much all mine now as I just started the biz) from the ads from the eco friendly businesses and community organizations on the left of the page.

Yes gotta love those Democrats LOL

A driver is stuck in a traffic jam going into downtown Chicago. Nothing is moving north or south. Suddenly a man knocks on his window.

The driver rolls down his window and asks, 'What happened, what's the hold up?'

'Terrorists have kidnapped Hillary Clinton, Rosie O'Donnell, Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton. They are asking for a $10 million ransom. Otherwise they are going to douse them with gasoline and set them on fire. So we are going from car to car, taking up a collection.'

The driver asks, 'On average, how much is everyone giving?'

                                'About a gallon.'
